Welcome back to White Rose of Avalon, my Darlings. For today’s Tarot Thursday blog post, I have decided to discuss some Tarot Archetypes that I find to be incredibly potent to work with during the Yuletide Season!
The Hermit (IX)
~One of the first Tarot cards that comes to mind for the Yuletide Season is the Hermit. The energy of introspection and a calm time to go within is intrinsically linked to the Winter Solstice time. In fact, in some decks, the Hermit is holding his lantern in a snowy landscape, further affirming this link, with the Hermit card from The Wildwood Tarot (called the Hooded Man in this deck) being a perfect example of this!
The Sun (XIX)
~This is the other card that comes to mind immediately for the Yuletide Season, in my opinion. After all, the Winter Solstice is quite literally the return of the Sun! Each day after the Solstice has us regaining light until the Summer Solstice, at which time the longest day occurs, and then we lose light each day. In many ways, the Sun card can be seen as an ultimate card of the Solstices, since the amount of the Sun’s light is tied directly to each Solstice, with the Winter Solstice being the longest night and the Summer Solstice being the longest day. The energy of the Sun card can aid us in illuminating the darkness as we await the light to be reborn at this time of year!
The Emperor (IV)
~Carrying on the theme of Solar energy, it is quite obvious to me that the Emperor card is a powerful energy during Yuletide. The Emperor can be seen not just as the ideal King figure, but also as a Solar God or Faery King, whose energy is reborn at the Winter Solstice in many traditions!
The Empress (III)
~Now, these final two cards may not be as obviously linked to this time of year as the ones above, but I think they are just as powerful to work with during the Yuletide Season. In the case of the Empress, she is there as the nurturing maternal presence, the Mother Goddess and Faery Queen holding her children in her warm embrace on the cold Winter’s night. She can aid us in weathering the storm and keeping hope alive as we delve into the Shadows of the night and face the bite of Wintery weather!
The High Priestess (II)
~Last, but not least, the High Priestess is the Initiatrix into the Mysteries, the Voice of the Divine, and the Channel of the Divine. She is the Lady of the Lake and Sacred Priestess who can aid us in understanding the patterns of our lives. As we go within and face what lies in the Shadow, by the light of the Hermit’s lantern, it is the High Priestess whose Occult Knowledge and Arcane Wisdom will show us the deeper meaning!
~I hope you have enjoyed this look at five potent Tarot Archetypes to work with during the Yuletide Season. What is your favorite Tarot Archetype to work with at this time of year? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below!
