Welcome back to White Rose of Avalon, my Darlings. Today’s New Year’s Eve post is a Tarot Tuesday look at the Hermit card as the card of 2025. After all, if we look at the numerology, we see that 2+0+2+5=9, and 9 is the number of the Hermit card!
So, what does it mean to align the energy of the Hermit card with this coming year? Well, the energy of the Hermit card and the Hermit Archetype is one of deep introspection. The ability to go within and honestly assess where you are on your journey and how you are feeling about the situations in which you find yourself is what the Hermit calls you to do! He is also an energy often associated with rest, as introspection is a solitary activity, and going within should be a restful time.
When we seek to apply the wisdom of the Hermit energy to the year ahead, we are looking at a year full of deep emotions and learning from the depth of intuition. This will look different for each of us; some may find that their ability to outwardly vocalize what is going on inside may be difficult, as they may very well be caught up in the introspective nature of the Hermit. So that may be the challenges they must overcome, learning to express what knowledge they have gained. Others may find that the Hermit is calling them to change directions, as his lantern is a guide in the darkness. In this case, their challenge may be to find a path that is more holistically in line with the life they are trying to live. Still, others may find that the ability to truly introspect is very difficult for them generally, which will make the internal nature of the Hermit a difficult energy to work with, and that may even cause some internal conflict for them!
I have read some thoughts from other Tarot readers stating that the Hermit brings with him a time to learn and study more and even a good time to go into mentorships and classes with trusted teachers. I love that idea, as the deeply internal nature of the card does not have to mean isolating ourselves but instead using this as a time to learn and grow in smaller groups for deeper spiritual understanding! As long as you can trust yourself to discern what information you are learning applies to your situation and what does not, it can be immensely helpful to have others guiding you on your journey, much like the Hermit himself guides by lantern light. The Hermit energy is also here to reveal what is hidden, and that is something that we can even see happening now. More secrets are coming to the light on a global scale. This revelatory energy also aligns well with learning and study, as learning will allow us to assimilate information and see the truth more clearly. I think that this is part of the most potent energy of the Hermit, he does not let us pretend that things are alright or lie to ourselves!
I have hopes that the revealing and honest energy of the Hermit may make us feel more comfortable expressing hidden truths as long as we are able to alchemize our trauma into something new and beautiful.
