The Chakras

For today’s post, I have decided to do a brief overview of the chakra system.   As a lifelong yoga practitioner, chakra work is a pretty basic part of daily life for me.   Yoga in itself can help to balance and cleanse this system of energy centers!   I will take this post as seven brief overviews, one of each chakra.

Chakra 1:  ROOT CHAKRA

~The first chakra is the root chakra and is located at the base of the spine.   Its color is red and it is associated with grounding.   This chakra helps to make us feel secure and protected.   It is also associated with the element earth.   If it is out of balance you can feel insecure in having your basic needs met.   Good crystals for working on this chakra include garnet, hematite, red jasper, and black obsidian.

Chakra 2: SACRAL CHAKRA

~The second chakra is the sacral chakra and is located above the root around the area of the sexual organs.   Its color is orange and it is associated with sexuality.   This chakra helps us balance our sexuality and creativity!    It is also associated with the element water.   If it is out of balance you can have issues with healthily expressing your sexuality.   Good crystals for working on this chakra include carnelian, sunstone, citrine, and snowflake obsidian.

Chakra 3: SOLAR PLEXUS CHAKRA

~The third chakra is the solar plexus and it is located just above the navel.   Its color is yellow and it is associated with personal power.   This chakra helps us embrace our true selves!   It is also associated with the element fire and is sometimes even referred to as the fire in the belly.   If it is out of balance you can feel unable to stand up for yourself.   Good crystals for working on this chakra include citrine, tiger’s eye, amber, and yellow topaz.

Chakra 4: HEART CHAKRA

~The fourth chakra is the heart chakra and is located at the center of the chest.   Its color is green and it is associated with love of all sorts, including self-love.   This chakra helps us to receive and give love healthily.   It is also associated with the element of air.   If it is out of balance you can feel unloved or unable to feel love.   Good crystals for working on this chakra include rose quartz, green jade, and green aventurine.

Chakra 5: THROAT CHAKRA

~The fifth chakra is the throat chakra and as the name suggests it is located at the throat.   Its color is royal blue and it is associated with speech.   This chakra helps us to speak our inner truths.    If it is out of balance you can feel unheard in the world.   Good crystals for working on this chakra include amazonite, turquoise, aquamarine, and lapis lazuli.

Chakra 6: THIRD EYE CHAKRA

~The sixth chakra is the third eye and it is located on the forehead in between the eyebrows.   Its color is indigo and it is associated with psychic awareness.   This chakra helps us to understand the energies that we come into contact with.   For those who have natural psychic abilities, the balance of this chakra is highly important.   It is truly the window into our greater awareness.   If it is out of balance you can be unable to understand what is going on around you.   Good crystals for working on this chakra include lapis lazuli, amethyst, black obsidian, and clear quartz.

Chakra 7: CROWN CHAKRA

~The seventh and final chakra is the crown chakra and it is located at the very top of the head.   Its color is violet, or some say white, and it is associated with a connection to the higher spiritual realms.   This chakra helps us feel a connection to the divine or universe as a whole.   If it is out of balance you can feel jaded and uncertain of who you are in the world.   Good crystals for working on this chakra include amethyst, clear quartz, howlite, and lepidolite.

~I hope you have enjoyed learning a bit about each of the chakras.   Let me know your thoughts in the comments below!
