For today’s post I want to count down my top five favorite Disney villains. I will only list villains in Disney films based on fairytales here, in order to keep it organized!
Number 5: Lady Tremaine from Cinderella
~My number five pick is, in fact, the evil stepmother of all evil stepmothers! I do not think I need to say more.
Number 4: The Wicked Queen from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs
~My number four pick is the step mother of Snow White. In the oldest tellings it was actually her mother! The Grimm brothers were the ones to change this because they found the idea of a mother wanting her natural borne daughter dead to be far too disturbing!
Number 3: Mother Gothel from Tangled
~My number three pick is the wicked witch that imprisoned Rapunzel. Gothel used Rapunzel’s magic hair to keep herself young.
Number 2: Ursula from The Little Mermaid
~My number two pick is the sea witch that gave Ariel legs, and then tried to thwart her attempts to find true love. The end of this film, with the battle against Ursula, is really iconic!
Number 1: Maleficent from Sleeping Beauty
~Unsurprising to fans of my blog, my top pick is of course Maleficent! Sleeping Beauty is one of my all time favorites, and I also adore Maleficent’s subsequent films!
Special Mention: Cruella de Vil: Since I kept it to only fairytale characters she did not make the list. However a villain who wanted to kill puppies for fur coats (I loathe fur coats to begin with) definitely gets my vote as an evil woman!
