  • The Elizabeth Woodville and Guinevere Connection

For today’s post I would like to discuss the connection between the legendary figure of Guinevere and the real queen Elizabeth Woodville!    This may seem a bit far fetched, but given the prevalence of Arthurian legends during the medieval period, many real royals would take inspiration from these legends.    Elizabeth Woodville’s daughter and…

  • Medusa

The tale of Medusa is often remembered as one of the monstrous gorgon who was finally defeated by Perseus beheading her!     However Medusa was not originally a monster at all, instead she was the most beautiful priestess of Athena.   Her beauty was what would become her downfall.    In my post on…

  • My Top 5 Most Magical Stevie Nicks Songs

For today’s post I would like to do a countdown of my top five picks for most magical songs by Stevie Nicks.   I love the music of Stevie Nicks, both solo and with Fleetwood Mac.    This countdown will have songs that have an ethereal and magical feel that Stevie is so known for!…

  • My Top 5 Comedy Horror Films

For today’s post I want to take a look at some of my favorite comedy horror films.    These films are cross-overs between the two genres.    Some are outright comedic spoofs of horror tropes, and others are horror films with comedy elements!    As a lover of both horror and comedy, these films appeal…

  • Common Accusations of Witchcraft

For today’s blog post I would like to take a look at some of the causes of witchcraft accusations in history.   There are many reasons that women (and some men) have been accused of witchcraft throughout the centuries.     In the common era witchcraft is understood to be a part of nature based religious…

  • Fata Morgana

A fata morgana is a type of mirage seen by sailors.    It appears like a mystical structure just above the sea, and it appears quickly.   The reason I want to talk about this particular type of mirage is the origin of its name.    It is named for Morgan Le Fay, and in…

  • Morgause: Mother of Mordred

Morgause is one of the sisters of King Arthur in the Arthurian Legends.   It is her, instead of Morgan Le Fay, who is given to be the mother of Mordred in the earliest tellings.    I have discussed Morgan as Mordred’s mother previously.   Morgan and Morgause tended to get conflated as time went…

  • Morgan Le Fay as Morrigan

Morgan Le Fay can be seen as an Arthurian take on the Irish Celtic goddess the Morrigan.   The Morrigan is a death goddess and a war goddess.    She was often associated with battlefields and warriors.    The Morrigan was a crow goddess who was deeply connected to this bird, which makes sense given…

  • The Arthurian White Hart

In Arthurian tales, and by extension, the Arthurian Tarot the White Hart is a symbol of magic, love, and lovers.   The white hart is also sometimes called the white stag, since the word hart is an archaic term for stag.   In this post I will use stag and hart interchangeably.    White animals…

  • Ancestral Mythology

The concept of ancestral mythology is a very intriguing one.   This is the mythology that our physical ancestors would have believed in.   We each have a deeper connection to the myths and folktales of our own ancestors than to those of other cultures.   This makes for an innate feeling of interest (for…
