Navigating Tower Times & Learning From Cleansing Destruction

Welcome back to White Rose of Avalon, my Darlings.   For today’s Tarot Tuesday blog post, I will be discussing the Tower card and how to navigate the times of cleansing destruction, which it often heralds!

I know that the Tower card is often thought of as the least welcome card to appear in a Reading.   After all, the card is associated with shocking change and cleansing destruction.   That is not usually something most people want to welcome into their lives.   So, of course, this card can be a rough one to have appear.   Yet, there is always something that we can learn from having our lives shaken up by this Tower energy.

After all, we can only plant a garden if we break the soil.   Not to mention, most of us tend to learn best through experience.   If someone never makes a mistake, lessons may only be half learned, and not fully integrated.   So, while the Tower times of our lives bring a lot of uncertainty, and even pain, they also bring a chance to integrate and learn.   All of that being said, being in the midst of these massive changes is not easy.   This is especially true if you were feeling happy with how life had been going.   Yet, I have found that there have been times when the Tower appeared in a Reading, or Tower times came into my life, and it is not always as destructive as the card may seem at first glance.   I have found that sometimes the sense of ease I had been feeling with how life was going before the Tower appeared was actually stagnation produced by anxiety over taking a much-desired risk.   In cases like this, the Tower energy may be coming in to push you to take the risk you have been fearing and desiring in equal measure!   After all, without some risk, there are no great rewards.

Now, as to how to navigate Tower times, I find that being gentle with myself is key to weathering the storm.   Beating yourself up over mistakes or what-ifs is not going to help the matter.   So, instead, giving yourself, and others in your life, a bit of grace tends to go a long way in making even the most uncertain times a bit easier.   I know that this is not always an easy task, as many people tend to blame themselves when a crisis arises, but looking at yourself with kindness really does aid in making Tower times a bit easier to manage.   Another great thing to do is to journal in an attempt to get to the root of any lessons that you think can be learned from this time of struggle.   Finally, for me, remembering that the Tower times are there to teach us lessons and cleanse out old and unnecessary energies really does help to soften the blow of the stressful time I am having.

I hope that this reflection on Tower times has given you some food for thought.   What is your favorite way to be kind to yourself when times of uncertainty happen?   Let me know your thoughts in the comments below!

  1. What a beautifully grounded take on the Tower, Maranda! I especially love your point about how the sense of ease before the Tower appears can sometimes actually be anxiety-driven stagnation—that reframe of the Tower as a push toward a risk you’ve been longing to take is something I’ll be sitting with for a while. And the garden metaphor is perfect: nothing grows without breaking the soil first.

To answer your question, my favorite way to be kind to myself during uncertain times is to lower the bar on purpose. I ask myself, “What’s the smallest, gentlest thing I can do for myself right now?” Sometimes that’s a cup of tea and a nap, sometimes it’s just stepping outside for five minutes of fresh air. It sounds small, but it keeps me from trying to “fix” everything at once when I’m in the middle of the storm.

Thank you for this reflection—it’s exactly the reminder I needed today. 🖤

    • I am so glad that my post resonated with you and gave you a reminder that you needed. I love the idea of lowering the bar so that you are doing the smallest and gentlest thing for yourself during stressful times! I definitely agree that it really is a good idea to move slowly and thoughtfully during uncertain times. As always, thanks for reading and commenting! 🖤
