‘Seasons of the Witch: Autumn Tarot’ Review

Welcome back to White Rose of Avalon, my Darlings.   For today’s Tarot Tuesday post, I will be sharing a review of the Seasons of the Witch: Autumn Tarot by Lorriane Andersen and illustrated by Tijana Lukovic.   This beautiful deck was kindly gifted to me by my best friend, Daisy, for my birthday.   So, thank you, Daisy!

This deck is brand new, having just been released in August.   As soon as I heard of this deck’s release, I knew that I would love to have it, so I was utterly delighted to receive it as a birthday gift in September!   I have been working with the deck regularly since, and it is a truly stunning deck with wonderful energy.   The cards are edged in pumpkin orange foil, and the artwork truly feels like entering an Autumnal Forest full of Witches, Ghosts, and Fae!   I was very happy to see that the deck works well with the Seasons of the Witch: Samhain Oracle, which I have been a fan of for years.   It was also wonderful to see that the wisdom contained in this deck is not just a rehash of the Oracle decks; it is truly a Tarot deck that is infused with Autumnal energy!

In fact, this Tarot deck was illustrated by a different artist.   Tijana Lukovic does a fantastic job of bringing a sense of whimsy and enchanted woodland energy to this deck with artworks full of Autumnal colors and imagery.   The deck’s author, Lorriane Anderson, made the choice to change out the names of the Court Cards.   Instead of the Pages, this deck has the Initiates.   Instead of the Knights, this deck has the Seekers.   Instead of the Queens, this deck has the Shepherds.   Instead of the Kings, this deck has the Keepers.   I enjoyed this change, as it aligns with different levels of magickal knowledge as you walk a spiritual path, tying in nicely with the Witch theme.   Furthermore, each of the suits still has the traditional names with the word Autumn added (Autumn Cups, Autumn Wands, Autumn Pentacles, and Autumn Swords).   Each suit also has a symbol of Autumn tied to it.   Wands are broomsticks, Cups are Jack-o’-lanterns, Swords are branches, and Pentacles are mirrors.   There are also some changes made to the Major Arcana, my favorites being Sunset for the Sun card and Waning Moon for the Moon card!   This was a lovely way of tying the cycles of the Moon and Sun into the deck’s energy and bringing in an alignment with the Autumn season.   The author also does a wonderful job of explaining why these alterations were made in the guidebook.

Overall, I am very happy with this deck.   It will definitely be a staple each Autumn from here on.   If you love the season of Autumn and are looking for a Tarot deck to align with this energy, this one is a great choice!   I hope you have enjoyed this review.   Do you own this deck?   Are you interested in adding it to your collection?   Let me know your thoughts in the comments below!
