Welcome back to White Rose of Avalon, my Darlings. For today’s Tarot Tuesday blog post, I will be exploring Divination for Autumn!
Divination is more than just working with Tarot, as there are many ways to read messages from the Otherworld. Other common forms of Divination include Runes, Seashell Divination, Scrying (in various forms), and Tea Leaf Reading. Of course, there are other forms of Cartomancy, or Divination with cards, that overlap with Tarot, like Oracle cards and the Lenormand. However, no matter what form of Divination is your preferred method, there is a connection to your intuition and your own subconscious that aids in finding meaning in the messages.
That is why I think that even people who do not work with Divination regularly are more drawn to these practices during the dark half of the year. As we deepen into our own inner world, the subconscious, and work through any Shadow issues we may find there, Divination is a wonderful tool to enhance this practice. This is not a matter of Divination working the best in Autumn, although there is definitely an extra punch to the messages you can receive when the Veil is thin (both in Autumn and in Spring), so much as it is a matter of natural inclinations to go inward during the dark half of the year, drawing people to practice Divination more regularly! At least this is a pattern that I have seen where people talk about Tarot and other Divination forms more.
I know that even though I practice Tarot Reading daily, both professionally here at White Rose of Avalon and personally for self-development, I always find that Portal Times (like the liminal seasons of Spring and Autumn) enhance this energy. Beyond that, I also find that as I draw inward more, growing more contemplative with the nights growing longer in Autumn, I crave performing more Divination for myself more often. That is what inspired writing this reflection. I saw this pattern form in my own life, and I can tell others seem more drawn to these practices in the dark half of the year, and I wanted to explore the alignment. It makes total sense that such a deeply intuitive practice that requires being open to Otherworldly messages would call to us more profoundly when the Veil thins and the darkness is more pronounced!

You’ve captured something I’ve felt but never quite put into words—that pull toward divination as the nights grow longer isn’t just coincidence, it’s a natural alignment with the season’s invitation to go inward. I love how you distinguished between the Veil being thin versus our own natural inclination to turn toward the subconscious during the dark half of the year. Tarot has been my primary practice, but lately I’ve felt drawn to scrying and even exploring runes for the first time.
