Welcome back to White Rose of Avalon, my Darlings. For today’s Mermaid Monday blog post, I will be sharing a reflection on working with the Lady of the Lake and taking the Sword of Truth when it is offered!
In the Arthurian legends, one of the most evocative images of magick is when Arthur is given Excalibur by the Lady of the Lake. We can all picture quite clearly in the mind’s eye Excalibur rising from the Lake, being held by the Lady’s arm. After all, it has been used in artwork and film enough times! The shining Sword of Truth and Scabbard of Invulnerability gifted to Arthur by the Lady of the Lake is an energy that we can work with in our own practices. While this is not a literal Sword in the physical world (unless you choose to purchase one to use in your rituals), this energetic Sword of Truth can be accessed through meditation and Astral Travel!
So, how can you access this energy? I have found that, for me, the easiest way to take up the Sword of Truth is to meditate with one of the Ladies of the Lake (for there are several). Then, you may just work up to Astral Traveling to Avalon, even in your waking time. I do this often, but I have been walking the Path of Avalon and Priestessing to Faery Queens for years now, so this may take time to develop. You may also want to seek out meditation music, or guided meditations, to aid this process. However, once you can clearly see this in your mind’s eye, see the Lady of the Lake, you can begin to build a more powerful relationship with her. Over time, as this relationship grows, and your pure-hearted intentions are seen by the Lady, you may just be handed a Sword of Truth of your very own! At least, this is how it has worked for me, and how I seek to guide students when working with the Lady of the Lake (and the Gwragedd Annwn).
After you have felt a connection with the Sword of Truth, you can work with the energy while in meditation, call the energy forth in spellworking and ritual, and cultivate a Path of Integrity and Authenticity for yourself. After all, that is what working with this Sword, gifted by the Watery Faery Queen, is meant to do: inspire us to live our lives with truth, honor, and integrity!
