Welcome back to White Rose of Avalon, my Darlings. For today’s Mermaid Monday blog post, I will be discussing the energy of the Shadowy Siren!
As we delve more deeply into Siren September, the idea of darkness increasing is apparent. Tomorrow is the official date of the Autumn Equinox this year, so after that we will officially have more dark hours than light hours until the Winter Solstice. That is what has inspired me to discuss the Shadowy energy of the Siren. This is the Siren, or Mermaid, who lives in the greatest depths of the Sea, where we have never explored. She may live near the Kraken, the Megalodon, and many unknown Sea creatures. The image that is in my mind is both something dangerous and something beautiful. The Shadowy Siren is not here to simply breed fear, but she will protect herself always. The Shadowy Siren is also here to inspire us to dive to greater depths into our own psyches and find what is hidden there!
That is where the Soul Scrying comes in. I consider performing deeply internal work to get to the heart of the Shadow to be Scrying the Mirror of the Soul. The Mermaids, the Sirens, the Water Faeries, and the Watery Faery Queens are ideal guides into this practice. That is where the connection lies; the Shadowy Siren energy can be worked with to perform this internal Soul Scrying work. It can be as simple as deepening into a meditative or trance-like state and letting all of the emotions that are coming naturally flow over you. You can also actively work with the Sirens by calling in their energy during this process, if you have a relationship with them already. Taking it a step further, you can use a Scrying Mirror or try Water Scrying to see what visions or messages come through. In my case, Mirror Scrying and Water Scrying tend to send me into Astral Projection to Avalon and other Otherworldly places quite easily. So, that can be another level of Soul Scrying: Astral travel to receive advice from your Spiritual Team more clearly!
Of course, this process will look different for everyone, and I am just sharing a few techniques that work well for me. Never be afraid to try what you feel intuitively pulled towards, as that is often the right path. What a beautiful and timely reflection, Maranda! 🖤🌊 The Shadowy Siren feels like the perfect guide as we cross into the darker half of the year — not to frighten us, but to walk beside us into those unexplored depths. I love how you framed her as both dangerous and beautiful, a protector rather than a fearmonger. That reframe feels so empowering.
The idea of Soul Scrying as “Scrying the Mirror of the Soul” really resonates with me. I’ve never thought of shadow work quite that way before — as a form of scrying — but it makes so much sense. Diving inward is a kind of divination, isn’t it? And the image of the Shadowy Siren living near the Kraken and Megalodon, in those unexplored trenches, is such a powerful metaphor for the parts of ourselves we haven’t yet dared to look at.
My favorite shadow work activity in the autumn is journaling by candlelight — something about the flickering flame and the longer nights makes it easier to write honestly. Your mention of astral projection to Avalon has me curious!
