Welcome back to White Rose of Avalon, my Darlings. For today’s Mermaid Monday blog post, I will be exploring working with Mermaids in Dream Magick!
Ah, yes, the Mermaids are so deeply tied to the intuition and the emotions. This makes it of little surprise that Mermaids can also be tied to Dreams. After all, a Mermaid may just be your ideal guide into your own subconscious, whether through meditation or Shadow Work, so why not dreams? I often find that messages in my dreams appear to be gifts from the Mermaids, or messages from them. This can be quite literal, with my astral traveling in dreams to Avalon, or another Otherworldly Isle, and swimming with the Mermaids there. However, this can also be ever more subtle, like a message coming forth with advice on a situation that has been causing anxiety.
No matter what, the connection between the Mermaids and the Waters of the Subconscious is very strong. You can even actively work to cultivate a deeper connection with the Mermaids through Dream Magick. This can include meditating with the Mermaids right before you fall asleep, listening to Sea Sounds or any form of running water as you sleep, or creating a Mermaid Dream Pillow. You see, any sort of Dream Pillow, or Dream Spell Pouch, can be made with Mermaid Magick; you just need to enchant the item with the Mermaids. Instead of just including calming herbs and crystals, you can also use Sea Glass, shells, ammonites, hagstones, and even sea salt within the pouch. Hagstones and ammonites will be especially potent, as hagstones hold Otherworldly energy that can allow us to pierce the Veil and see the Otherworld, and ammonites hold powerful ancestral energy! So, sleeping with a pouch containing these items under your pillow can definitely draw you closer to the Otherworld generally, and the Mermaids specifically, especially if you have enchanted this magickal item for that purpose. After you have created this Dream Pillow or Dream Spell Pouch, you just need to keep it under your pillow and see what insights come your way at night! Finally, I want to say that I also recommend journaling as soon as you wake up to record anything you remember.
I hope you have enjoyed this reflection on Mermaids and Dream Magick. What is your favorite way to work with Dream Magick? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below!
Side Note: I have made a small correction, as I originally used unconscious instead of subconscious in this post. Whoops, sorry for the confusion, but even those with backgrounds in psychology make mistakes!

One response to “Mermaid Dreams: Delving into the Subconscious with the Mermaids”
Yes indeed. A Mermaid connects the subconscious (not unconscious), immersed (or unified) experience of Reality with conscious (discriminative) experience of the world. The Mermaid embodies the power of higher discrimination, intuition and the ability to see and understand and communicate a deeper, underlying connection between all things.
