The Mermaid’s Mirror: Exploring a Mermaid’s Scrying Tool

Welcome back to White Rose of Avalon, my Darlings.   For today’s Mermaid Monday blog post, I will be exploring the Mermaid’s Mirror as a powerful tool!

One of the most iconic images we think of when we hear the word Mermaid is that of a lovely Sea Maiden gazing at her reflection in a mirror.   It could be easy to assume that this mirror is only a tool of vanity, tied to her desire to see the reflection of her own beauty.   However, those of us with more magickal and occult knowledge can tell you that mirrors are much more than simply glasses to gaze upon your visage shown within.

Mirrors are portals and mirrors are tools for communication with the Otherworld!   Mirrors can be used in Divination to seek visions that answer long-sought questions.   That is why a Scrying Mirror is such a powerful tool.   This can be made even more potent if you charge the mirror under the Full Moon and call on the Mermaids when you use it!   Many people swear by covering their Scrying Mirrors while they are not in use, to protect the energy and prevent any unwanted spiritual energy from coming through the portal.   This is true whether you are using an Obsidian Mirror (my personal favorite) or a regular mirror you have enchanted (or even painted black to use as a Scrying surface).   However, I think that it is more important to remember to lock all the mirrors in your house.   When you physically clean the mirrors, you should also use sigils or protective symbols drawn with fingers on the mirror’s surface to protect any unwanted energy from coming through the portal.   You can do the same with Scrying Mirrors!

Of course, I would be remiss if I did not state that water can be a mirror as well.   After all, water is the first mirror; far before we gazed into glass, we saw our visages reflected in water.   Of course, just like mirrors, water is also a portal.   This means that much of the same magick you work with the mirror can be worked with enchanted water.   In fact, the act of Water Scrying is very similar to the act of Mirror Scrying, and I always get comparable results personally!   Is it any wonder that Mermaids are so tied to mirrors?   Mirrors and water are truly tied.

I hope you have enjoyed reading my reflections on the power of a Mermaid’s Mirror as a powerful tool.   Do you work with mirrors in magick?   Let me know your thoughts in the comments below!
