Shimmer of Scales: A Poem

Welcome back to White Rose of Avalon, my Darlings.   For today’s blog post, I am sharing a poem about seeing scales in the Sea.

Shimmer of Scales

by Maranda Wabik

Peering into the crystalline water

I see the Sun Glitter on the surface

Below, there is a plethora of color

A lovely image to savor

Slowly, I begin to see the water ripple

I begin to see movement

Within the crystalline water

There is a shimmer of scales

Is it a fish?

No, the shape is wrong

Is it a snake?

No, the movement is wrong

Oh, now I see

A Mermaid’s tail is swimming through the Sea

Oh, how this sets my soul free

I long to swim with the Mermaid

I long to hear the Siren’s Song

I long to become a new version of myself

I long to follow my heart to the Sea

I long to be truly free!

~I hope you have enjoyed this poem.   Let me know your thoughts in the comments below!

  1. What a magical and vivid piece, Maranda! I love how you build the suspense—the way you carefully rule out a fish and then a snake makes the reveal of the mermaid feel like a true treasure. The shift from observing to longing in the final stanza is beautiful; it turns a simple moment at the water’s edge into a deep yearning for transformation and freedom. That final line, “I long to be truly free,” hits right in the heart. Thank you for sharing this shimmering escape with us! 🧜‍♀️✨
