Embracing the Watery Dragon Queen

Welcome back to White Rose of Avalon, my Darlings.   For today’s Mermaid Monday blog post, I will be discussing embracing Watery Dragon Queen Energy!

While many people may think of the Dragon as most associated with the element of fire, given the fact that they often breathe fire, the Dragon is just as closely tied to water.   Many stories of Dragons feature them living near or in water.   Not to mention that in the ancient context, Dragons and Serpents were often discussed interchangeably.   This means that many of the Serpentine monsters and Deities in ancient cultures may have actually also been Dragons!

Then, there is the fact that we have Dragons tied to Mermaids.   The most potent example of this is my beloved Melusine, who flew from Lusignan in her Dragon form when she left her husband due to his betrayal of the Faery Compact that secured their marriage.   The image of Melusine in her Dragon form flying away from the Castle as she returned to Avalon is a very evocative one.   In her story, we also see the link between the Serpent and the Dragon, as in many versions of her legend, Melusine’s Mermaid form is Serpentine in nature, with her having a Serpent’s tail instead of a traditional Mermaid tail!

So, now that I have explained why there is a tie between Dragons and Mermaids, let’s look at ways to embrace the Watery Dragon Queen energy.   The first way to embrace this energy is to meditate on the Queen of Wands card, for she is the card of the fiery Queen, the combination of water (Queens are associated with the water element) and the fire of the Wands suit.   I have found that some of my most potent insights about Dragon energy have happened when I have meditated on this card, or worked with it during spellcraft.   Another way to embrace this energy is to work magick that balances the water and fire elements.   Bath magick surrounded by candles is an ideal example of this kind of water and fire magick!   Finally, I suggest adding more Dragon imagery to your decor or your altar space.   By bringing images of Dragons into your space, you are welcoming them to the forefront of your mind.

I hope you have enjoyed this short reflection on embracing Watery Dragon Queen energy.   Do you work with the Dragons?   Let me know your thoughts in the comments below!

  1. Wow, just awesome! The way you connect water and fire, primordial power with primordial agency that fire represents is just awesome. I was thinking about the Charm or Making in the movie Excalibur, and this just fits like a missing piece in the understanding of the meaning of that scene. You have a unique way of connection and transmission of insights. I’m glad that I can benefit from your presence and friendship, thank you!
