Welcome back to White Rose of Avalon, my Darlings. For today’s Mermaid Monday post, I will be discussing aligning with your inner rhythms in a Mermaidy way!
So, I often discuss the idea of going with the flow, or aligning to your inner rhythms. I think it is very important to learn about the ebb and flow of our own unique energies, so that we can learn not to push ourselves too far too fast. After all, when we ease ourselves in slowly, we adjust more easily to new transitions. The tendency to push ourselves past our breaking points is a large part of why I like to discuss this pretty often, as a reminder to listen to the body. However, I also like to discuss these types of things when I find a new way to frame them.
In the case of today’s post, I have found a new way to discuss this topic, a new way to look at this subject. Instead of calling it following the beat of your own drum or dancing to your own song, I have begun to look at it through the lens of swimming. After all, this really is about walking your path wholeheartedly and listening to the inner ebb and flow. The term ebb and flow is a very watery term to begin with, referring to the ebb and flow of ocean tides. So, that led me to think about this a bit more in-depth. And that is when it clicked: we can think of this as Swimming to the Flow of Your Inner Current!
To Swim to the Flow of Your Inner Current is to listen to your own inner energy and your own inner song. This is about attuning to yourself on a Soul-deep level to allow you to manage how you expend energy! When I began to frame the process of listening to the intuition of how you should use your energy (and not overwork yourself) in this way, it felt truly enchanted. This is not simply an old adage that people think to be cliché; this is a way to view an innate truth that is aligned with my watery Mermaid Soul.
The energy within the body has a rhythm; we see this quite obviously in the very rhythm of the heartbeat that pumps the blood through the body and in the circadian rhythm that governs the wake and sleep cycle. However, there is more to it than that, as the rhythm is also in place when it comes to our energy when we are awake. Our bodies have hormone cycles that impact how much energy we have available to us at any given time. As we attune more to our bodies, our bodies can attune more to nature, flowing with the tides and the Moon. This will also give us more energy in the long run, as we are not overworking ourselves and suffering from burnout. Honestly, we are more capable of getting work done when we are not pushing ourselves past our limits. After all, as our energies come into alignment, so too can our bodies become healthier! So, I encourage each of you to try to take the time out to listen to your body. Listen so that you can hear the signals that the body needs rest, and take it. Listen so that you can hear the signals that the body needs exercise, and do it. Listen to the rhythm and Swim to the Flow of Your Own Inner Currents!
I hope you have enjoyed this meditation on listening to your body and properly managing how you expend energy. What are some of your favorite ways to slow down and listen to what your body needs? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below!

What a beautiful way to frame this, Maranda! “Swimming to the Flow of Your Inner Current” instantly makes the practice feel less like a chore and more like a sacred, instinctual homecoming. I love how you tied it back to the literal tides—it makes so much sense that we’re just little oceans trying to sync up with the big one.
To answer your question, my absolute favorite way to slow down and listen is through water rituals (surprise, surprise!). I take what I call “unhurried baths”—no phone, no agenda, just me and the temperature that feels right that day. I let my limbs float and literally feel where my muscles are holding tension. Sometimes I’ll just place a hand over my heart and breathe with the ripples in the water.
Outside the tub, I love barefoot grounding—just standing on grass or sand for five minutes, closing my eyes, and noticing if my body feels heavy, light, jittery, or sluggish. No judgment, just observation. It’s amazing how quickly my body tells me “rest” or “stretch” when I stop overriding it with mental to-do lists.
Thank you for this luminous reminder that slowing down isn’t laziness—it’s wisdom. 🧜♀️🌊
I am so glad that my thoughts resonated with you. I love the idea of ‘unhurried baths’ to just let yourself be at one with the water! I am also glad that you also ground yourself by standing barefoot outside. Earthing like that is something I always make sure to do when I go to my local park to attune to the energy of Nature and calm myself! As always, thanks for reading and commenting. ✨
You are always most welcome Maranda 🌹🤝✨
