Siren’s Song, Vampire’s Thrall

Blood in the water
Can attract more than just sharks
Oh, yes, this is no lark
Where the Vampiric Sirens are involved
They can smell the blood
They can hear the heartbeat
When you hear their song,
Oh, it will not be long
Swimming quickly
Splashing in the waves
Water spirals into a portal
That will trap those who are mortal
In a web that will be the Siren’s delight
The last thing to be seen is the sparkling eyes
Then, fangs pierce flesh
Breathing slows as water flows
Feeling at bliss with the Siren’s Kiss!

Maranda, this is absolutely haunting in the best way! I love how you blended the allure of sirens with the darkness of vampires—the “Siren’s Kiss” line gave me chills. The imagery of water spiraling into a portal and those sparkling eyes being the last thing seen is so vivid and cinematic. I am so glad that this poem resonated with you! I was obviously inspired by the darker side of Mermaid and Siren lore.
