The Sun Card and the Solar Divine Feminine

Welcome back to White Rose of Avalon, my Darlings.   For today’s Tarot Tuesday blog post, I will be discussing the Sun Card and the Solar Divine Feminine!

The Sun card in Tarot is one full of optimism, hope, and warmth.   This Golden energy of the Sun, warming the earth and seeding new life.  Oh, yes, this is an apt energy to connect with fertility and creativity.   The Solar Divine Feminine is also full of Golden warmth and the energy of caring for others.   The Sun Goddess is the Golden warmth of the maternal and the Sacred Sexual energy of the Love Goddess who draws lovers to her like moths to the flame!

So, by extension, the Sun card, while often discussed as being tied to masculine sexual energy, is also tied to the warmth and nurturance that is aligned with the Divine Feminine.   The warmth and nurturance of the Sun is where I think the card is most intimately tied to the Divine Feminine.   Beyond the nurturing aspect, there is also the connection with sexuality and Sacred Sexuality.   When we look at the ties to masculine sexuality, this is something that connects with the feminine sexuality to cause change through fertility and creativity!   So, I think that this is something that balances the Solar energy between the masculine and the feminine, and what ultimately causes the growth and change that assures the hope for the future.

While we do not think of Sun Goddesses as often as we think of the Sun tied to the Divine Masculine, there is an abundance of Sun Goddesses in Celtic lore.   When we look past the traditional dichotomy of the Sun is masculine and the Moon is feminine, we can see the true nuance within the Solar and the Lunar!   Even more so, I think that there is something truly magickal about how often we associate warmth and a sunny disposition with women more than men.   In that way, the optimistic, sunny energy and warmth are something that assures us that there is a bit of the Solar linked to the feminine in general.

I hope you have enjoyed this brief meditation on the power of the Sun in Tarot and the Solar Divine Feminine.   What is your favorite aspect of the Sun card?   Let me know your thoughts in the comments below!

  1. What a radiant and refreshing perspective, Maranda! I love how you’ve broadened the Sun card beyond the usual masculine associations and given space to that golden, nurturing warmth of the Solar Divine Feminine. The way you tied Sacred Sexuality to fertility and creativity—framing it as a balance rather than a binary—really resonated with me. And your point about “sunny dispositions” being culturally linked to women is such a beautiful observation; it makes me realize how deeply ingrained that Solar energy is in our daily lives, even if we don’t always name it. My favorite aspect of the Sun card has always been that unshakable sense of joy and clarity, but now I’ll be seeing it through this beautiful, Goddess-lit lens too. Thank you for sharing this warmth! ☀️
