The Golden Goddess of Midsummer: Embracing the Solar Divine Feminine

Welcome back to White Rose of Avalon, my Darlings.   For today’s Femme Fatale Friday blog post, I am sharing a post about embracing the Solar Divine Feminine and the Golden Goddess of Midsummer!

As we are now in Midsummer season, with the Summer Solstice being Sunday, I thought that it was the ideal time to discuss the energy of the Golden Goddesses.   It is often thought that the dichotomy of the Solar as Masculine and the Lunar as Feminine is a given.   However, it is not that simple, as there are many Goddesses associated with the Sun, especially in Celtic myth, and even examples of Gods associated with the Moon.   Of course, the Moon ruling over the tides and the menstrual cycles of women makes it an obvious thing to tie the Moon to the Feminine.    Yet, that does not deny that the Solar Feminine is a very potent energy!

The Solar Feminine is something that I think is a potent bridge between the Venusian and Lunar Feminine energies.   After all, Venus is a hot planet and known as the Morning and Evening Star, and the Sun is a Star that provides the planet with warmth.   So, in many ways, it is a lovely way to see that we can work with the Divine Feminine through the Sun, the Moon, and Venus.   Now, let’s look at the Golden Goddess and working with this energy and archetype.

I have to say that the Solar Divine Feminine, the Golden Goddess, is an energy I work with to embrace my Inner Queen.   After all, the only Zodiac sign that is ruled by the Sun is Leo, the Lion, and this is a sign deeply tied with rulership, royalty, and sovereignty!   This may be something that I think, in part, because I have a lot of Leo placements, both in Sidereal and Tropical Astrology.   I am a Leo Sun and Moon in Sidereal Astrology; specifically, I have them in Purva Phalguni Nakshatra in Vedic, which is a Water Nakshatra ruled by Venus, further cementing the links between Sun and Venus for me.   In Tropical Astrology, I have a Leo Ascendant.   However, in both, I have a Leo Stellium!   So, clearly, this Golden, sunny, and regal energy is deeply aligned in my birth chart.   In many ways, my Sidereal chart is a perfect alignment of Watery and Golden, as it is a very Watery chart (which makes sense for me as an Incarnated Mermaid), but it is also one with so much Leo energy.   I think of the energy of my Sidereal chart as being a truly radiant one, like Sun Glitter on the Water.   Oh, and another link to this Golden energy that I have naturally is a Golden Aura, which has been attested to by friends reading my Aura (and my own experiences seeing it).    This has, in fact, led some old friends to have trouble seeing me as anything but a figure filled with light and optimism, causing misunderstandings when they put me on a pedestal.   But that is not really pertinent to the topic of this post, so let’s move on.

Yes, the Solar Divine Feminine is the Queen to me, and that is attested to when we look to Rhiannon.   Rhiannon is a Faery Queen Goddess who is tied deeply to the Queen Archetype, for she is a Sovereignty Goddess and a Horse Goddess!   Rhiannon is also one of the most potent Solar Goddesses in Celtic lore, as she is always described as Golden.   When she entered the story in the first branch of The Mabinogion, we read of her riding on a White Mare and wearing a Golden Veil.   Rhiannon also shows that link between the Sun and Venus I have been threading through this discussion, as she is also very much so a Celtic Venus, with her story revolving around love and fertility, as well as Sovereignty.

Finally, I want to share a bit of how you can work with this energy in your life.   Of course, you can work with the Solar Divine Feminine by actively cultivating Queen energy.   This could be meditating on Queen energy, or journaling on what the Queen Archetype means to you.   This can also be working through any Shadow issues you have that may be causing you to be in a victim mentality, as the Queen is opposed to that victim mentality, striving to have Sovereignty over her pain.   Beyond that, working magick with Honey, which has that Golden color and can be included in spellcraft within Solar Magick, and working with Solar herbs and oils like Calendula, Chamomile, and Sunflower are great ways to tap into this energy.   Lastly, I will recommend sitting in the sunshine.   This may be simple, but it is ever so potent; just feeling the Sun warming your skin, better yet while you journal about Queen energy, is an ideal way to tap into the energy of the Golden Goddess.   I personally love doing this, with plenty of sunscreen to protect my fair skin, and have found myself wonderfully at peace in my own skin afterwards!

I hope that you have enjoyed reading this reflection on how I work with the Solar Divine Feminine.   What is your relationship to the Golden Goddess?   Let me know your thoughts in the comments below!

Note: I just had to acknowledge that this post today is the 2000th post here on the White Rose of Avalon blog!   It is hard to believe that I have been posting on this blog for over five years, and that I have reached 2000 posts, but it is so exciting.   I am so grateful to have gotten to this milestone, and to have all of my lovely readers, clients, and students.   I cannot wait to see what the next years will bring.
