Welcome back to White Rose of Avalon, my Darlings. For today’s Femme Fatale Friday blog post, I have decided to discuss how to prepare to celebrate and embrace Aphrodite and Venus during the Summer. I will be doing that through exploring Aphrodisia, usually stated to have been traditionally celebrated in late June and July. Of course, there is also the festival of Adonia, a festival of Adonis, which is also related to Aphrodite and celebrates her by mourning the loss of her lover, and is also often celebrated at Midsummer.
This year, I definitely want to celebrate Aphrodisia in my personal practices. Over the last couple of months, I have been feeling more and more pulled towards working with Aphrodite. She was the first Goddess I ever developed a personal devotional relationship with back when I began working with Deities, and even though I work primarily with the Celtic Faery Queen Goddesses, I have always still worked with Aphrodite to varying degrees over the years. However, there are certain times when I feel even more pulled towards working with Aphrodite, and that has been happening more and more lately. So, what better time than the time of year when the ancients celebrated Aphodisia and Adonia to work more closely with Aphrodite?
Given that I am a Priestess of more than one Celtic Venusian Faery Queen, I can also work rituals and spells with Aphrodite that include them. It is often extra potent to work Self-Love Spells, for example, by working with Aphrodite alongside other Goddesses connected with Love and Pleasure. Blodeuwedd, Rhiannon, Guinevere, and Melusine all fall into this category! This is also true of spells to enhance pleasure and promote receptivity, which I find that most people in today’s world need, given how goal-oriented we are all taught to be. Think about it: how lovely would it be to create a spell or ritual to open yourself up to receiving the blessings of the Goddess and truly enjoy pleasure while your desires are working to manifest? It is such a powerfully joyful energy to awaken to! This does not mean that you simply focus only on pleasure and receptivity, because you need to put in the work first. What it means is that after you have put in the work to begin on the path to reaching your dreams, you take the time to truly enjoy what fruits of your desires will come into being, taking the time to care for yourself and your pleasure while your magick is working!
Beyond spellwork, I will also be celebrating Aphrodisia by doing another Aphrodisia Week here on White Rose of Avalon. I did an Aphrodisia Week back in 2022, and I wanted to do that again this Summer. This year, I will be writing about seven of my favorite epithets of Aphrodite and my relationship to them! Aphrodisia Week 2026 will be from Monday, June 22, through Sunday, June 28, 2026. I cannot wait to discuss my favorite epithets of Aphrodite with you all during that week.
I hope you have enjoyed this post about preparing to celebrate Aphrodisia. Will you celebrate the Goddess of Love this Summer? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below!
