Welcome back to White Rose of Avalon, my Darlings. For today’s Tarot Tuesday blog post, I will be discussing the Eight of Cups card.
The Eight of Cups is the card that signals a time for change, a time to turn around and strike out in a new direction. Given that it is in the ever-emotional Cups suit, this card is one that represents following your own path. When the Eight of Cups appears in a Reading, I always feel that it is there to remind me, or the client I am Reading for, to leave behind that which does not resonate. The old and the outmoded, the stale, the things that simply no longer fit with the life you are working to build, need to be left behind.
You see, there is power in leaving behind that which no longer serves. While it may be painful to let go of things that we once thought were so important, it opens up a whole new world of possibilities. It is only after we have said goodbye to what has died off that we can use that energy to nourish the soil where we will plant all of the new hopes and dreams! Remember that when something ends, it is from the ashes that new possibilities arise, like a Phoenix. So, instead of thinking that striking out in a new direction means totally forgetting where you have come from, there is power in using that old energy to nourish the seeds of intention moving forward. After all, each step we take on the journey makes us the people we are.
So, yes, to me the Eight of Cups is a powerful reminder of how winding this path truly is. It is also a reminder that to turn a new corner and welcome change is what will allow us to grow into new versions of ourselves. In truth, we are always evolving and rarifying ourselves, becoming more and more in tune with our deepest desires. It is when we walk the ever-winding path of our Soul’s Journey without fear that we can truly reap the rewards!
I hope that you have enjoyed reading this short meditation on the power of the Eight of Cups card. What do you think of the Eight of Cups? Do you welcome the changing direction that this card offers? Or, do you fear change and seek to hold onto old patterns? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below!

Maranda, this Eight of Cups art from the Shadowscapes Tarot is stunning. I love how Stephanie Law captures the quiet courage of walking away—the deep blues and the figure stepping into mist feel exactly like that “diving deeper” energy. Thank you for sharing it! It pairs so beautifully with today’s post about nourishing new dreams from old endings.
I am glad that the post spoke to you and that you agree with the artwork choice! As always, thanks for reading and commenting.
