Welcome back to White Rose of Avalon, my Darlings. For today’s Tarot Thursday blog post, I will be exploring the Lover and Creatrix Archetypal energy to examine working with the Empress in Tarot!
As we draw nearer to the Summer Solstice, the energy of the Empress grows more profound. Of course, her energy was already growing with Beltane, but I always find that the Empress Tarot energy is at the peak during Midsummer! After all, she is a card of abundance, prosperity, joy, fertility, and fruitfulness. So, the time of year when the world is the most in bloom would be the time when she is most potently felt in day-to-day life!
Now, it is quite obvious that the Empress in Tarot is very much aligned with the Lover, or Creatrix, archetype. We even see the glyph of Venus on the Empress card, showing her connection to that most feminine planet of Love! Venusian energy is Lover and Creatrix energy, so the fact that I see the Empress as being aligned with this archetype should not be surprising.
So, you may wonder, how do I use the Empress Tarot card to work with the Lover Archetype? The answer is quite simple: you can work the Empress card into your magickal workings to embrace the Lover Archetype. This could mean beginning by meditating on your favorite Empress card. This can mean placing your favorite Empress card on your altar to have a focus point in your day-to-day magickal practices.
Beyond meditation and having the card on your altar, you can create whole spells and rituals surrounding the Empress card. This can be a spell incorporating imagery and energy that is found within the specific Empress card depiction you are working with. This can be a ritual to commune with your Inner Lover energy, calling forth the Sacred Sexuality within the Empress card. Or this can be something completely unique to you! Some other things to consider when working with the Empress card magickally are journaling on what the Empress energy means to you and considering what other archetypes the Empress brings to mind for you. Certainly, although I associate the Empress the most with the Lover and Creatrix energy, she is also deeply tied to Queen energy. So, that could be another fantastic way to work with the Empress magickally, and you can craft a spell about finding balance between the Lover and the Queen!
