Welcome back to White Rose of Avalon, my Darlings. For today’s Femme Fatale Friday blog post, I will be discussing the connections between May Queens and the Celtic Venus!
To begin with, May Queens are automatically Celtic Venusian figures in my realm of thought. To be a May Queen, you have to have a deep connection to the Sacred Landscape and to Sovereignty and to fertility. All of these aspects appear time and time again in the stories of Celtic Venusian Faery Queens!
So, yes, all May Queens are already part of the Celtic Venus. However, they hold a special energy within the Celtic Venus. A May Queen is a youthful Queen, the one who has just made the Sacred Marriage and is celebrating her Wedding Feast with merriment and Sacred Sexuality to bless the Land with Fertility as she blesses the rulership of the King who has taken her as a Bride! This is such a potent energy to hold, for she is bridging the energies of Maiden, in her playful energy, Creatrix, in her sexuality, and Queen, in her new marriage to a King. She has not yet arrived at the energy of the High Queen firmly seated in her most regal form, but she is on her way to being seen in this light by her new husband’s Kingdom.
As a May Queen, the Celtic Venus draws people to her like moths to the flame. They desire to bask in her energy, just as they bask in the heat of the Beltane Fires. They find comfort in her freedom of movement, her freedom of expression, and her freedom of joy. The May Queen is happy to express her joy, for she is the Queen of the Celebrations during the Lusty Month of May. The May Queen is the Celtic Venus at her most playful, truly reveling in the energy of the Seasonal Celebration of Sacred Sexuality. For some May Queens, this playful Sacred Sexuality will result in the conception of a child, one that will further cement her husband’s Sovereignty. For others, they will hold onto the playful and youthful energy for a while longer, as they remain a May Queen over the course of several years. Either way, the energy of the May Queen is there to bless the Land, to bless the King, and to bless herself with true Authenticity.
As the seasons turn, we see the Celtic Venus in her varied forms, until she is firmly seated in her May Queen energy once more. Oh, yes, the playful dance and sensual energy of the May Queen is never forgotten. After all, she is a potent aspect of the Celtic Venus, and one that is celebrated with great joy during the Lusty Month of May!
