Welcome back to White Rose of Avalon, my Darlings.   For today’s blog post, I am discussing my ultimate comfort films, the ones I watch multiple times annually!   These films are not ranked; this is a list based on the fact that these films are ones I find comfort in revisiting, usually multiple times a year.   Now, I did limit the list to the top thirteen films, rather than list every comfort film I have, but these are definitely my favorite comfort films to revisit annually.   Without further ado, let’s look at my most rewatched films.

Practical Magic 1998

~To the surprise of no one who is familiar with my blog, this film is the first one I thought of when it comes to comfort watches.   I watch Practical Magic several times a year.   It is a film that I watch on special days, and it is a film that I watch when I just need a little pick-me-up after a stressful day.   I will never tire of the soothing comfort that this witchy film about sisterhood gives me!

Splash 1984

~Ah, my beloved Mermaid rom-com!   I watch this one whenever I want a fun and fantasy-filled romantic time.   I love Madison as a Mermaid character, and I have admired her Mermaid tail since I was a little girl!   This film also gets huge bonus points from me as a lover of all things Mermaid, given that we actually get a man who is willing to live in the Sea with his Mermaid lover.   That is the ending most Mermaid-loving people would want.   After all, I would much rather live in an Enchanted Realm beneath the Sea than above water.   But, maybe that is just me!   

Aquamarine 2006

~Yes, a second Mermaid film that I watch multiple times a year.   This one is part of my adolescence in a deep way!   I was 14 when the film premiered, and turned 15 later that year, so it definitely hit at the right time.   Beyond that, I had read the book when I was 10 or 11, so I was already a fan of the story.   Needless to say, this is a film that I revisited often with friends throughout high school!   It is also a film that I watch often when I want the joyful feelings of female friendship with a Mermaidy twist.

Marie Antoinette 2006

~This is my absolute favorite Sofia Coppola film, and yes, I watch it often.   I love the soundtrack, I love the production design, and I love the costumes.   However, what I perhaps love best is that this film takes a very sympathetic take on telling Marie Antoinette’s story!   This is not a film that portrays her as simply a spoiled royal.   Rather, this film shows us that she was a teenage girl who was forced into a marriage and into moving to another country.   She was scared and uncertain of her place in the Court, so she leaned into finding joy and fun where she could, in order to cope!

Tristan & Isolde 2006

~Okay, so it occurs to me that I have three films from 2006, so clearly this was a major comfort year for me.   Well, given I was 14 and 15, it certainly makes sense that films I first saw then would hold a special place in my heart, given I watched them at an important time in my life.   So, this film should also not surprise many familiar with this blog.   I have always adored the story of these two legendary lovers, and this film is a very satisfying version of the story!

Ginger Snaps 2000

~This is by far my favorite Werewolf film!  I love to watch this when I want some fun sisterhood vibes with a much darker twist.   I also love to watch this whenever I feel pent-up anger, as this allows me to see the rage on full display.

Jennifer’s Body 2009

~Of course, if the above film is on this list, so would this one be!   I love them both, and I am possibly one of the few who saw Ginger Snaps before this film was even announced.   This has awesome energy, it has the rage, and it has the female friendship, if in a very twisted way!

Stardust 2007

~Ah, another one on here for romantic reasons.   I truly adore this fantasy romance between a man and the Star he had meant to get for his lover.   This one is so fun and sweet, and honestly highly underrated!

Ever After 1997

~My absolute favorite version of Cinderella!   I love the costumes, I love the set design, and I love the historical setting.   Sure, they did not give us full fantasy with the Faery Godmother, but they gave us Leonardo DiVinici in her place.   That makes me so happy that I do not really miss the fantastical elements much!

The Phantom of the Opera Live at Royal Albert Hall 2011

~Of course, with this being my all-time favorite musical, I would watch this multiple times a year.   Seriously, this is far better than watching the 2004 film.   We have amazing singers and actors playing the characters, and a truly beautiful performance!   

Nosferatu 2024

~My favorite Vampire film just had to be included.   I really adore what Eggers did in updating this film, and just how much old Vampire folklore he included!   I also have to give major bonus points for all of the Occult and Alchemical information included, as the nerd in me delights in it.

The Lure 2015

~Okay, so yes, I have three Mermaid films as comfort films, so what?   But seriously, this one is really unique.   It is a Polish Mermaid Musical Horror film that is largely based on Hans Christian Andersen’s original The Little Mermaid.   So, really, what is not to love?   There is nothing not to love; this film is amazing!

La Belle et la Bête 1946

~I just had to have a French film on the list, too.   Of course, when I thought of which French films I watch multiple times a year, this is the one that came to mind immediately.   I love Beauty and the Beast in general.   So, this surreal and utterly enchanted take on the story is a favorite to revisit!
