Welcome Back to White Rose of Avalon, my Darlings. For today’s blog post, I have decided to share a bit about choosing a motto that reminds us of our Sovereignty. My personal Sovereignty Motto was actually Anne Boleyn’s Coronation Motto: La Plus Heureuse! That is why I have chosen to write about this topic today, as it is the 490th Anniversary of Anne Boleyn’s execution. The choice of this motto came about from my deep empathy for Anne Boleyn and love for her memory. However, this motto has come to mean so much to me personally, and I want to go over that a bit today.
Now that I have covered a bit of the background, let’s dig deeper. I first encountered this motto when studying Anne Boleyn’s history as a teenager, and I first read the English translation, ‘The Most Happy’. However, when I began to dig deeper, I found the original French, and something clicked. This was not the only motto Anne Boleyn had during her lifetime, but it was one that impacted me on a visceral level!
When I was in my 20s and had been walking my Witchy Path for a few years, I knew that I had to commemorate my love of the Magickal life I was living. You see, I had always wanted tattoos, at least a few, so I began to design what I would want for my first tattoo. After a lot of thought, I just knew it had to be this motto. So, actually, on May 19th of that year, yes, I scheduled the appointment with that in mind, I got the words ‘la plus heureuse’ tattooed in script along my left rib! It was such an enchanting experience, a coming together of so many hopes and dreams. This small bit of ink marked a new phase of my life, a phase where I would seek to live my most authentic life! My husband, who was then my boyfriend, was with me that day. He was shocked at how little I reacted to the tattooing process, but I felt an interesting sensation rather than much pain, and I felt a sense of freedom and joy.
Over the years, I have never once regretted getting those words emblazoned on my body. The motto means more to me than the most obvious exclamation of joy that it is. La Plus Heureuse is also a reminder of truly valuing the good times in life while they last, a reminder to NEVER TAKE ANYTHING FOR GRANTED. This motto is a reminder to have gratitude. Furthermore, the motto has become very much like the Wheel of Fortune energy for me, as the Wheel forever turns, and the bad times give way to the good, but the good are a reminder that we can weather the bad! So, yes, I have a tattoo of the motto that reminds me to embrace my true Sovereignty and Authenticity as a Witch, an Enchantress, and a Priestess, and it is so much better than having a simple crown tattoo, as it truly aligns with my own ideals and values. This is also why my email address features the words la plus heureuse, as I wanted yet another thing to remind me of this deeply felt energy daily.
So, now that I have shared what my personal Motto of Sovereignty and inner Queenship is, I want to ask you, what is yours? What motto makes you feel your most truly embodied and empowered self? Do you take inspiration from history, as I did? I hope that you have enjoyed reading this deeply personal reflection about one way I have embraced Sovereignty. Let me know your thoughts in the comments below!

What a beautiful and deeply personal reflection, Maranda! I love how you’ve woven together history, magick, and your own life journey into a meaningful symbol of sovereignty. The fact that you chose Anne Boleyn’s coronation motto and got it inked on the anniversary of her death adds such a powerful layer of reverence and reclaiming. “La plus heureuse” as a reminder not just of joy, but of gratitude, impermanence, and resilience—that really resonates. And what a perfect way to carry that energy with you every day, even in your email address! Thank you for sharing this. It makes me want to reflect on what my own motto of empowerment might be. Wishing you continued happiness and authenticity on your path. ✨
Thank you so much for your kind words! I am glad to know that I have inspired you. I wish you luck in finding a motto for your own Sovereignty! As always, thanks for reading and commenting. ✨ 👑
