Welcome back to White Rose of Avalon, my Darlings. For this week’s Siren Saturday, I have decided to share the fifteenth entry in my Incarnated Mermaid Diaries series. Today’s topic is Filling My Cup & Overflowing with Joy!
I find that this is a topic that is an important reminder for many of us. It is so easy to forget to truly fill our own cups, especially as we get busy. Oftentimes, we tend to want to continue to help others, do for others, and give of ourselves. While that is a beautiful thing, and we should prioritize caregiving, we also must remember to refill our own cups so that we are not depleted! Hence, the meaning of the old adage, you cannot pour from an empty cup.
I think that Incarnated Mermaids like myself, given how deeply emotional, empathetic, and watery we are, can struggle a bit more with this than some other people. I have had to actively remind myself that taking the morning to do my Tarot work and yoga, taking that time for myself to energize, is necessary. I have had to remind myself that it is not selfish to need to fill my cup each day. Over time, I have released the guilt I once felt over taking the time to care for myself each day, and now I am healthier and so are my relationships!
Beyond the morning routine, I also like to do other things that bring joy as a treat for accomplishing tasks. I have a glass of wine in the evening, or watch a favorite film. I take the time to have a joyful dance party in my living room. I decorate my home with beautiful things that make me smile. I spend time with my husband, enjoying his company and feeling my best with the love of my life. I take the time to do self-care and self-love through beauty and spa-like treatments, like hennaing my hair and putting on a nourishing face mask. All of these things add up to make for a much healthier and happier life!
I hope that this post has made you think about the importance of caring for yourself, as well as loved ones. What is your favorite way to fill your cup? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below!
Note on Image: The image at the top of the post is an Incarnated Mermaid Diaries Title Artwork that I created using the Waterhouse painting Hylas and the Nymphs. I found the painting on https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/a/a2/Waterhouse_Hylas_and_the_Nymphs_Manchester_Art_Gallery_1896.15_n2.jpg.

Maranda, thank you for this beautiful reminder! I love how you’ve woven the mermaid metaphor throughout your journey—it makes the idea of self-care feel so much more magical and intentional. 🌊✨
You’re absolutely right that empathic, watery souls can give until they run dry without even realizing it. I’ve struggled with that guilt too, but reading how you’ve released it gives me hope. Your morning Tarot and yoga sound like such a gentle way to begin the day with your own cup first.
One of my favorite ways to fill my cup is to step outside first thing in the morning with a hot cup of tea, just listening to the birds and feeling the sun on my face. No phone, no rush—just a few minutes of stillness before the world pulls at me. It’s simple, but it resets everything.
Thank you again for sharing this entry. Wishing you endless waves of joy and overflow! 💖
I am so glad that this post has been inspiring to you! I love that you begin your morning with a cup of tea and basking in the sunlight. That sounds lovely! As always, thanks for reading and commenting.
