Welcome back to White Rose of Avalon, my Darlings. For today’s Femme Fatale Friday blog post, I have decided to share a reflection about embracing May Queen energy on my Wedding Day, as it is my 5th Anniversary with my husband, Andrew!
On Saturday, May 15, 2021, I finally married the love of my life, after we had spent six years together. Andrew and I first met in college, and we have been together ever since. I could not have been happier to marry my husband, even if we had to push back our wedding for six months, due to the pandemic. However, I believe that marrying during Beltane season was much more ideal than marrying on Samhain, as we had originally planned! It honestly was quite a beautiful mirroring of getting engaged on Valentine’s Day (of 2020), to then marry just after Beltane.
Given that I have always adored Beltane, marrying two weeks after the holiday, when the May Queen energy was in full bloom, was beyond ideal. I was also incredibly excited that we got to get married in the middle of the woods, as I had always wanted an outdoor wedding. We married at a Summer Camp that was not in use, as it was May, which we were able to rent out for the weekend. This meant that we got to spend time in the middle of the woods, surrounded by the beauty of Nature. Andrew and I had our first look photos taken in a small wooded grove. All of the trees and flowers were in full bloom in the woods, and I got to do all of my own flowers for the ceremony and reception, including my bouquet. The flowers themselves were gifted by my cousin, and I spent the night before the wedding with my friend doing the flowers.
The morning of the wedding, we set up all of the decorations and then got ready for the ceremony. For the actual ceremony itself, we self-united, which is a special type of wedding ceremony legal in here PA, where we live, due to the Quaker heritage of the state. A self-uniting ceremony means that you do not need to have an officiant, which was ideal for us, given that we wrote our own vows, and it meant that we had fewer people there. This was, of course, a good thing due to the pandemic. Our ceremony was simple, with poetry read and our vows read. In my vows, I even referenced Guinevere and Lancelot, which is an obvious May Queen nod, but also just very fitting for me, given my lifelong love of Arthurian legends. In fact, the whole day I could feel the energy of Celtic Venusian May Queens, and it made the day all the more special. It was not a surprise to me, given that May Queens and the Celtic Venus energy are very romantic!
The reception was lovely, full of great music, delicious food and wine, and lots of dancing. The dancing was the ideal way to show love and joy, and also to tap into the Fae energy! Our first dance was to the song Leather and Lace by Stevie Nicks and Don Henley, which showed our love for 70s music and all things magickal.
So, yes, our Wedding Day was very magickal, and I felt like a true May Queen. However, the best part of this day was that it was the beginning of my marriage. After all, the marriage itself is the most important! I want to wish the love of my life a very happy 5th Wedding Anniversary; so, Happy Anniversary, Andrew! I hope you have enjoyed this reflection. Let me know your thoughts in the comments below!

Happy 5th Anniversary, Maranda! What a beautiful reflection—it’s clear that your wedding day was truly infused with magic, love, and intention. From the self-uniting ceremony in the Pennsylvania woods to the Beltane energy and Celtic Venus nods, every detail sounds like it came straight from your heart. I love that you did your own flowers and danced to “Leather and Lace” (perfect choice!). Wishing you and Andrew many more years of May Queen joy and deep partnership.
