Welcome back to White Rose of Avalon, my Darlings. For today’s blog post, I am sharing a poem about the Paris Opera House during the Belle Époque!
A Night at the Paris Opera
by Maranda Wabik
A lovely gown of white silk and lace
A smile upon my face
As I don my lacy masque
Feeling enchanted as I enter the Secret Ball
Oh, what a joyous Fete
Looking through the crowd
Wondering who within I have met
Lovely masques
Lovely attire
Oh, the energy of the Paris Opera House is on fire
The thrum of forbidden desire
Runs through the skin
Just beneath the surface of all attendees
Earlier, there was the show
Now, we have the truly decadent party
Kisses exchanged behind masques
Dancing in ways normally forbidden
Oh, this is the ideal place to be hidden
I wonder, who is engaged
I wonder who is married
I wonder who is meeting their secret lovers
Oh, yes, this is quite the way to spend a Parisian Night!
~I hope you have enjoyed this poem. Let me know your thoughts in the comments below!

What a gorgeous poem, Maranda! You’ve truly captured the magic and mystery of the Belle Époque—the elegance of the gowns and masks, the electric energy of the crowd, and that thrilling undercurrent of forbidden desire. Lines like “The thrum of forbidden desire / Runs through the skin” gave me chills. It feels like stepping right into a midnight waltz at the Palais Garnier. Thank you for sharing this enchanting piece! ✨🎭
I am delighted that you felt transported to the Palais Garnier! That was definitely the intention. As always, thank you for reading and commenting! 🎭
