Welcome back to White Rose of Avalon, my Darlings. For today’s post, I will be discussing honing of Psychic Gifts and Opening Perception with the Sight. This is something that has been on my mind lately, as I have been thinking about how beautiful and powerful this is. I have also been thinking about how, once we open ourselves up to a certain extent, there is no going back! It is like we break through a boundary, and when we ‘Break on Through to the Other Side’ as the Doors sang about, we are so open that we cannot put the blinders back on. Without further ado, let’s unpack all of this.
So, we each have intuition, whether or not we have honed it. If you naturally have a more sensitive intuition, you may have some Psychic Gifts naturally, which means you can choose to open them up more and hone them. I have definitely always had a lot of Psychic Gifts, but as a teenager, I feared them. I feared being perceived as crazy, and so I tried to push away my Psychic Gifts and pretend that anything I perceived that was out of the ordinary was a lucky guess. Of course, I could not fully close myself off, even when I tried. Over time, I learned that I was always meant to work with the Oracular Arts, and now I am a Professional Priestess!
Yet, my journey to acknowledging this led me to deal with the memories of what I had actually experienced as a child. The fact that my “Imaginary Friends” that my parents thought I had were actually my Fair Folk Friends, always around me. I had to remember that I had seen Ghosts and other Spirits. I had to remember my experiences with the Mermaids from a very young age, ones that never really stopped happening whenever I was swimming, but ones that I did not share with others. It was in my early 20s that I finally began to accept myself and my natural abilities. It was then that I began to practice my magick and eventually develop devotional relationships with Faery Queens and other Goddesses.
Once I claimed the title of Witch, I also began to work with my abilities. I opened myself up slowly over time. I honed my skills and began to read Tarot more and more. I also began working with and trying out countless other types of Divination. Some of them worked for me, others not so much. But I learned, and I felt more and more comfortable in my own skin! Yes, my 20s were certainly a learning experience and a time of great growth, which helped me become the Priestess and Enchantress that I am today.
However, it was also this honing of my Oracular Gifts that would lead me to realizing that I could not close myself off ever again. What I had done as a teenager was an act of fear, and that was no longer an option. I was now opened up to perceive and understand in a way I had always been meant to. I could not be more grateful for this, as I love being a Professional Priestess and using my Oracular Gifts to help others. Yet, there is also the fact that being so open can be difficult. After all, once you are opened up to this extent, it becomes more difficult to function in the mundane world sometimes. It can be painful to see how others blind themselves to what is causing them harm or pain when you can see it clearly. It can be really hard to work a day job if you are surrounded by people who are not as intuitive as you are. So, I always remind people that while I think that the honing of Psychic Gifts and opening of your perception is a truly wonderful experience, it will cause drawbacks.
Do I regret honing my gifts and fully embracing the Sight? Not for a single second! I love what I do, and I know this is my path in life, my true life’s calling. I am also blessed to be able to do this professionally! That being said, the last year or so that I worked a day job was really tough, as I had to put many layers of Psychic protection around myself via protective Glamours, each day I had to go to work. That means that I know from experience that there is a Point of No Return, where you have tapped into your Psychic Energy, and will understand what others do not. Of course, there are certainly circumstances and day jobs that will work out well for those with honed gifts. For instance, I think that caregiving jobs, working in magickal shops, and working in environments where others are also intuitive could absolutely make a day job far less stressful!
I hope you have enjoyed this reflection on the process of honing gifts and opening up perception. Have you honed your own Psychic Gifts? Are you looking to do so? Do you desire to use your gifts professionally? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below!
