April Showers and the Power of Rain

Welcome back to White Rose of Avalon, my Darlings.   For today’s Mermaid Monday blog post, I will be discussing the power of rain, as we often get a lot of that in this Springtime month of April!

I have always loved the rain, from a sun shower to a storm; there has always been magick in the rain for me.   When I was a teenager, I used to love to sit out on my front porch and watch the rain at night.   Even earlier, as a child, I would delight in putting on a swimsuit and going and splashing in puddles that formed on the street with bare feet, much to my grandmother’s chagrin.   I would do these activities both as a child and as a teenager with friends.   Childhood playtime in the rain gave way to teenage girls cuddling under a blanket and telling secrets as they watched the rain fall.   This has really never left me, as I still love to dance in the rain when I am caught unexpectedly in a downpour!

Of course, not all of these recollections that I have shared have happened in the month of April, but they are all certainly memories that hold the essence of the power of rain.   As a child and teenager, I never understood exactly why I loved the rain, when so many people only saw it as an inconvenience.   Sure, I understood that unexpected rain could end up having you show up to a place utterly drenched, which is not always fun, but the rain itself was so lovely, and felt so cleansing!    As I grew, I understood that this love of the rain had much more behind it than simply my adoration of water and my deep connection to the element.   My love of rain was my love of the wild energy of Nature, my love of rain was my appreciation for the soil being nourished so that flowers could bloom, and my love of the rain was the value I placed in washing away that which does not serve.   After all, doesn’t rain do all of these things on a totally natural level?   Of course, it does!

Now, you may wonder, what about storms that cause destruction?   Well, I obviously would never find joy in things being torn asunder.   However, this can serve to teach us lessons about the power of Nature and the power of water.   After all, for as cleansing and purifying as water is, there is also danger there.   The danger of the Deep Sea is mirrored in the danger of destructive storms.   That is why we must be aware and careful.   Moreover, that is why we must treat Nature with respect!   When we come more into alignment with the tides of the seasons and the energy of the weather, we can begin to see patterns of when the rain is playful and when the rain could become a dangerous storm.   This will allow us to prepare and to protect.   And, most importantly, this will allow us to hone the skills of understanding and building a deep relationship with Nature!

I hope you have enjoyed this meditative look at why I adore rain and the power of those April Showers that nourish the soil each year.   Of course, this turned into a meditation on my relationship with rain more than simply focusing on April Showers, but I think that is part of the magick of writing these types of emotionally honest posts.   Sometimes they grow into something more poignant than I had initially intended!   What is your favorite thing about April’s rainy energy?   Do you love the flowers that blossom from it?   Do you love the romance of kisses in the rain?   Do you enjoy dancing and playing in the rain?   Or is there something else you like best?   Let me know your thoughts in the comments below!

  1. What a beautiful and heartfelt post, Maranda! 🌷 I love how you wove together childhood memories, teenage secrets, and a deeper spiritual connection to rain. Your words make me want to go stand outside the next time a spring shower rolls in.

For me, my favorite thing about April’s rainy energy is the way it makes everything feel fresh and new again—the scent of wet earth, the way the green of leaves just pops afterward, and how the world seems quieter and more peaceful, like it’s taking a deep breath. And yes, dancing in the rain is absolutely magical! Thank you for sharing your reflections—they’ve brightened my Mermaid Monday. 🌧️🧜‍♀️💙🤝

    • I am so glad to know that my post resonated with you! I have to agree that everything becoming fresh and new after the rain is truly enchanting. As always, thank you for reading and commenting! 🧜🏻‍♀️ ☔️ ✨
