Welcome back to White Rose of Avalon, my Darlings. For this week’s Siren Saturday, I have decided to share the tenth entry in my Incarnated Mermaid Diaries series. Today’s topic is Singing the Song of Your Soul!
Mermaids and song are often inextricably linked in folklore and fairytales. We often think of the Siren’s Song when we are discussing the idea of finding something to be alluring. The Siren’s Song is intoxicating and enchanting, but often speaks to a darker edge, just as Sirens themselves have a darker nature than Mermaids. Yet, this connection between Mermaids, Sirens, and many other Watery Fae and Song is there over and over again! Another of my favorite examples of a dangerous Mermaid is in Germanic folklore, the Lorelei sings on a large rock named for her, and much like the traditional Siren, she lured ships to wreck on the rocky shores of the Rhine River with her song. Then there is The Little Mermaid, who, in both the original Hans Christian Andersen story and in the Disney version, gave up her voice for a chance to win the heart of a Prince. Of course, in the Andersen original, she gave up more than her voice; she gave up her tongue. She also sought more than love, for she sought an Immortal Soul possessed by humans, but not by Mermaids. So, with The Little Mermaid in mind also, we can see that the connection between Mermaids and song really is deeply entwined with the power of our voices!
While it is clear in folklore and fairytales that Mermaids of all sorts are intimately connected with song, what does this mean for me as an Incarnated Mermaid? Well, that answer is easy, it is the reminder of the Power of My Voice, a reminder that I must Sing the Song of My Soul! What do I mean by Sing the Song of My Soul, and use the Power of My Voice? This is the process of speaking truthfully and with integrity, of not fearing to openly express my opinions. This is the process of fighting against being silenced, and most importantly, being a Voice in the World for those who cannot speak for themselves. This includes being a Voice for Melusine and teaching Her Mysteries. This includes being a Voice for Mermaids and Water Faeries, so that their messages can be shared with others. This includes being a Voice for the Sacred Waters themselves, sharing important messages, and spreading awareness! Of course, this also includes literal singing. Singing during Rituals, singing to Enchant the Waters, singing to raise energy, and singing for the enjoyment of singing!
After all, we know that Water holds Memory. We can see this clearly in the work of Masaru Emoto and Veda Austin. You can expose Water to frequencies, words, and images, and when you freeze the Water, you can see what changes have happened! Water spoken to with positive words and exposed to positive frequencies formed beautiful crystals, and water spoken to negatively formed misshapen and ugly crystals. Water could also mirror the images it is exposed to, which we see beautifully in Veda Austin’s works! I will link Masaru Emoto and Veda Austin’s websites below, so that you can see their work for yourselves. The fact that it can be done over and over is quite mesmerizing to see, and it shows the true intelligence and deep memory of Water. It truly does affirm that from a Metaphysical and Magickal perspective, if we drink Water, that we have Enchanted, we are literally taking in the Magick that the Water has received!
When I first heard of the work of Emoto and Austin, from hearing Annwyn Avalon and other Water Priestesses discuss them, it unlocked an understanding for me. This is a puzzle piece that shows just why Mermaid’s Songs were so powerful. It is the power of the voice acting upon the receptivity of the Water. The Mermaids, the Sirens, the Loreleis, and other Water Faeries are using the power of song, the power of voice to enchant the Waters around them! As an Incarnated Mermaid, I have always strived to use my voice the same way. Much of what I write about here on the White Rose of Avalon blog does come from wanting to spread the messages I receive from the Waters and the Water Faeries. This has become more and more true over time. As this is a deeply personal blog, I am sharing bits of my Spiritual and Magickal Path with permission from the Water Faeries and Goddesses to share messages and get people thinking. Beyond that, in my personal Rituals and Spellwork, I often Enchant Water with intentions, and this is something that we all can do to utilize the Power of Voice, whether we are Incarnated Mermaids or not!
I hope you have enjoyed this reflection on Singing the Song of the Soul and the Power of Voice from the perspective of an Incarnated Mermaid. How do you use your voice? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below!

What a beautiful and thought-provoking entry, Maranda! I love how you’ve woven together folklore, personal spirituality, and the science of water memory to remind us of the sacred power in our own voices. Your point about singing not just literally but as speaking truth, advocating for others, and sharing the messages of the waters really resonates with me.
For me, I use my voice by speaking up in small daily moments—whether that’s offering a kind word to someone who’s struggling, sharing what I’ve learned about nature and compassion, or simply singing along to music that lifts my heart. I also try to be a voice for quiet things: the trees, the streams, the animals that can’t say “listen.” Your diaries inspire me to be more intentional about how I enchant the world with my words.
Thank you for sharing your journey and for being a voice for Melusine and the sacred waters. Keep singing your soul’s song! 💙🌊
Thank you so much for your kind words! I am so glad to know that my work inspires you. I love your point about speaking up in small daily moments, as that is often so overlooked, but can truly turn someone’s day around! As always, thanks for reading and commenting. 💦 🧜🏻♀️
