Welcome back to White Rose of Avalon, my Darlings. For today’s Tarot Tuesday blog post, I will be discussing the importance of having firm boundaries, a lesson we can learn from the Queen of Swords! In many ways, the Queen of Swords is the one who grants the Sword of Truth, much like the Arthurian Lady of the Lake. With this connection with the Arthurian Lady of the Lake in mind, we can see that having proper boundaries can also aid us in wielding the Sword of Truth and holding fast to our own Sovereignty and Authenticity!
So, let’s dig a bit deeper with the Queen of Swords. While all of the Queens in Tarot can teach us lessons about boundaries, the Queen of Swords embodies this energy more than any other. The Queen of Swords is a very powerful and potent Queen. She holds us with tough love, for although she is very regal and elegant, her soft exterior hides a backbone of steel, which certainly shows us why she does not suffer fools! The Queen of Swords is there to hand us the Sword of Truth, if we are just trusting, honest, and brave enough to hold it. The Sword of Truth allows us to act with integrity and hold true to our ideals and morals!
The boundary that the Lady of the Lake is putting into place is one of Inner Truth. She is asking the bearer of the Sword of Truth to put up the boundary of speaking with truth, living their lives in authenticity, rather than from a place of falsehood. This truly is the Queen of Swords in her most Arthurian and Avalonian form. She wants us to keep our boundaries in place, respect the boundaries of others, and move through the world with our heads held high!
I think that the tough love energy of the Queen of Swords is partially why, in the past, I had always found her to be a difficult energy to work with. However, as I began to work with her more, given I have such a strong connection with the other Queens, and wanted to get to know her energy better, I saw this alignment with the Lady of the Lake. That is when it all fell into place for me. Yes, she may be showing her energy in tough love, but it is still love, and she has a great many lessons to teach us about how we hold our power! This is why, for the last few years, I no longer feel a sense of misunderstanding or harshness from this card, but rather one of graceful strength and integrity.
I hope you have enjoyed this short and meditative post reflecting on the Queen of Swords and the lessons we can learn from her. What are your experiences with this card? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below!
