The Incarnated Mermaid Diaries: Incarnated Mermaids & the Appreciation for the Arts

Welcome back to White Rose of Avalon, my Darlings.   For this week’s Siren Saturday, I have decided to share the ninth entry in my Incarnated Mermaid Diaries series.   Today’s topic is Incarnated Mermaids and the Appreciation of the Arts!

To begin, I will say that as an Incarnated Mermaid, I have a deep love and appreciation for beauty and art in many different forms.   I think that this is partially related to the way that art makes me feel!   Music moves me, both physically to dance and emotionally to tears.   I feel so deeply connected with characters in my favorite novels, films, and television series.   I love to be surrounded by the beauty of classical art prints.   I love to watch and experience live performances, which are so full of soul.   All of this truly makes my heart sing!

While I will note that, as always with these Incarnated Mermaid Diaries posts, I can truly only speak for myself, I do think that the appreciation for the arts, and even a creative side, is something that seems to be shared by many people whose Souls do not originate as human.   The connection to the Otherworld, to the Cosmos, and to wherever else our Souls can originate that is not this human world, gives a different perspective.   It also gives many of us a sense of not belonging, myself most definitely included.   This sense of being different, of being other in some way, can lead to the creation of some of the most potent works of art!   We can feel this in the way artists express a sense of being othered, a sense of being seen as strange, a sense of not fitting in.   This energy of feeling like one is different than those around them can be found in many pieces of art from all eras.   In fact, I personally think that this feeling of otherness is what ends up making art that is the most emotionally impactful and raw, and ultimately art that people are drawn to!    That being said, I think it should not be a surprise that someone, like myself, with a Soul that is not from here originally, would be so moved by art.

So, yes, I truly love art in its varied forms.   I adore the paintings of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood, other Pre-Raphaelite style artists that came later, and the Art Nouveau movement (at least those are my favorites).   I adore ancient sculptures, especially those done of Goddesses.   I adore Classic Rock Music, especially stuff from the 1960s and 1970s.   I adore film, and films from many genres and eras.   Everything from the Silent Classics to modern masterpieces.   Everything from horror and fantasy (amongst my favorite genres) to romance and comedy (my other favorite genres).   And, of course, I absolutely would not want to live without the written word.   I adore novels and poetry, from across time and genre.   Like with films, my favorite literary genres tend to be the same, but there is obviously a much longer history to the genres when we look at them as written genres versus film!   When it comes to poetry, I favor the Romantic Poets, especially Keats and Shelley, but I doubt that comes as a surprise to my regular readers.

Yes, oh, yes, art in all of its many varied forms moves me, and makes life all the sweeter.   Personally, I express myself artistically most often through poetry, but I also do like to sketch and design my home and outfits with creative flair.   Honestly, I put creativity into most things that I do because it brings me joy!   The arts are truly a place where we can find community, where we can find understanding, where we can find emotional resonance, no matter who we are!   I hope that you have enjoyed this meditative look at why an appreciation for the arts is such a large part of my life.   Do you hold a deep appreciation for the arts?   Let me know your thoughts in the comments below!

  1. Maranda, this is such a beautifully meditative post. I love how you’ve connected the concept of “otherness” to the creation and appreciation of art. It makes so much sense—art so often comes from a place of deep feeling, of looking at the world from a slightly different angle, and of yearning for connection. Your description of that “energy of feeling like one is different” being what makes art raw and emotionally impactful really resonated with me.

I also adore your taste! The Pre-Raphaelites and Art Nouveau are perfect for the themes you explore—they’re all about ethereal beauty, myth, and a kind of romantic longing that feels very much in line with an “incarnated” perspective. And Keats and Shelley are the ultimate poets for souls who feel a bit otherworldly. Thank you for sharing another entry in your diaries; it’s always a pleasure to read your thoughts on finding beauty and community in the arts.

    • Thank you so much for your kind words! I am so glad that my thoughts resonated with you. And yes, I suppose you are right, my tastes that I shared in the post do certainly fit my personality and my connection to all things Ethereal and Otherworldly. As always, thanks for reading and commenting! ✨
