Welcome back to White Rose of Avalon, my Darlings. For today’s blog post, I am sharing a poem about grieving.
Mournful Cries & Remembering Love
by Maranda Wabik
The Mournful Cries are wiped with sighs
A sorrowful day indeed
When we must pay heed to those no longer here
A long goodbye for the lost loved one
A tearful song played all along
The ending is the beginning of the grief
Oh, it will take time to find relief
Mourning is for the living
A time to remember the dead
However, we know that they have been released
The suffering of the mortal coil is over
The dead are with other lost loved ones
While we may miss them, we know they are better off
So, with the Mournful Cries
We remember love
We remember the happy times
And soon our tears will be in joy
Joy for the time we spent with them
Joy for the memories made
And most importantly
Joy for the Soul Released from Suffering!

Beautifully poignant, Maranda. The way you capture grief’s duality—the “mournful cries” alongside the “joy for the soul released”—really resonates. I especially love the lines “The ending is the beginning of the grief” and “Mourning is for the living.” Such important truths, gently expressed. Thank you for sharing this with us. 💙
Thank you for your kind words! I am so glad that the poem resonated with you.
