‘Venus Star Rising’ Book Review

Welcome back to White Rose of Avalon, my Darlings.   For today’s blog post, I am sharing my review of the book Venus Star Rising: A New Cosmology for the 21st Century by Arielle Guttman.

This book has been on my radar for some years now, and I finally had a chance to pick it up recently.   I am really glad that I did, because it is a fascinating read, and it truly was not what I had expected.   You see, the main reason that I picked up the book was that I wanted to deepen my knowledge of the Venus Cycle in general.   Now, this book does do that, so I did get what I wanted out of it, but I also got so much more!

Venus Star Rising is not just a book about your Venus sign in astrology, or even just about the Venus Cycle.   The book is focused on looking at the position of the Venus Star Point at birth, and also what has happened historically during times when these star points were active.   There are five Venus Star Points active at any given time in the world, which form the Venus Star (or some talk about it as the Venus Rose) in the sky as she transits!   As a sidenote, I actually prefer to refer to this as the Venus Rose or the Rose of Venus, but I will be using the book’s term of Venus Star throughout the review.   Both are accurate ways to name the pattern Venus forms with her transit, but I think the Venus Star term works for discussing the five active points at any given time, as they form a pentagram.

The book is very well formatted, beginning with introductory information about what the Venus Star Point is, versus a traditional Venus sign or Sun sign in a chart, and an overview of Venus in myth and astrology.   Then there are sections devoted to each Venus Star Point (all twelve zodiac signs) and finally sections devoted to the relationships between each Venus Star Point, which gives insight into relationships in your life and how each Venus Star Point may interact with the Venus Star Points they may encounter in their lifetime!

I do enjoy that the author has formatted the information in a way that would allow you to examine the Venus Star Points of yourself and people in your life without having to use natal charts, but also explains that you can use this information in conjunction with your natal chart.   The information presented in the book is quite revolutionary as a way to look at the influence of Venus on the world and on the lives of people.   I like that the information can be adapted to use within different astrological systems (Tropical, Sidereal, and Vedic), as it is left open-ended and focused on the points on the Venus Star.

I will note that, as this book was written in 2010 and published in 2011, some of the references to future events have long since passed.   However, the possibilities for the future discussed do bear some striking resemblances to what has occurred globally since the book was written.   This possibly makes it a more interesting read today than it was fifteen years ago!   I have to admit, I actually got goosebumps when I read about the relationships between Venus Star Points, when looking at my own and those of some of my loved ones, especially given some of the famous examples of relationships with these Star Point Pairings noted.

I would say that this is an intriguing read that certainly gave me a lot of food for thought.   I would recommend this book to anyone looking to look at the planet Venus in a new dimension that is not often discussed.   I hope that you have enjoyed reading my thoughts on this truly interesting book about Venus.   Have you read this book?   Do you have an interest in reading it now?   Let me know your thoughts in the comments below!

  1. Great review, Maranda! I’ve been curious about this book for a while, and your description of the Venus Star Points as a different way to understand Venus beyond just your sign has definitely piqued my interest. The fact that you could see such accurate connections in your own relationships gives me chills too! Adding this to my reading list for sure. 📚✨
