Welcome back to White Rose of Avalon, my Darlings. For today’s blog post, I will be sharing my review of the book The Divine Forces of the Lunar Nakshatras, as Portrayed in the Vedas: Mystical Forms, Ancient Epithets, and Sacred Mythology by Radhe! This is the first full book I have ever read on Vedic Astrology. Although I have been studying Sidereal and Vedic Astrology for a year now, before reading this book I had been focused on reading many articles and watching in-depth videos on YouTube. The book was a gift from my amazing husband, Andrew, this past Yuletide, and it was the perfect gift, as I was so delighted to finally dig deeper into Vedic Astrology!
Now that I have given some background, let’s get into the review. The book is a deep dive, not only into the Nakshatras themselves, but into the mythology associated with each Nakshatra Devata. This gave a lot of mythological context to why certain characteristics and personality traits may appear in the Native born under that Nakshatra. In fact, I know that the sections on the Natives of each Nakshatra will be an invaluable resource as I continue to study Vedic Astrology and dig deeper into my own chart and the charts of loved ones!
The book is also interspersed with translations of Sacred Texts that mention the Nakshatras and the Devatas, some of which were not readily available in English before this book was published. That makes this book a great resource for not only those studying Vedic Astrology but also those interested in Hindu mythology. I found the way the book was structured to be quite useful, as each section and chapter built upon itself, and the author had useful footnotes to direct a reader to other chapters that may further apply to a myth being discussed. The format allows for someone to read the book cover to cover, or use it as a resource for study, focusing on chapters that they may need to refresh their knowledge on. This is always a great thing for a book that will become a resource for further study!
I will say that I am very glad that I had already been studying Vedic Astrology throughout the last year before reading this book, as the book is very in-depth. While I do not think that a total beginner would be unable to understand this book, I do think that there is an abundance of information presented in the book that may overwhelm someone who has not done any research into Vedic Astrology at all. That being said, I am so glad that this was the first full book I ever read on Vedic Astrology, as the focus on Sacred Myths and the Nakshatras was right up my alley. I love to gain a better understanding of a subject through stories, and that is exactly what this book does. It is not simply stating characteristics or associations of a Nakshatra to memorize. Instead, the author has dug deep to find the reasons behind why these associations have come to be in the first place!
I would highly recommend this book to anyone looking to deepen their knowledge of Vedic Astrology, or even someone looking to better understand Hindu mythology. The book has certainly inspired me to find further connections across all sorts of myths and stories to the Nakshatras, which I had already begun doing, inspired by my research into my own chart. However, now I can see where myths of the Nakshatra Devatas mirror other myths, legends, and stories from all over the world, to a greater degree! As an Avalonian Water Priestess who loves to research myths and legends and find connections across ancient tales and across cultures, this is a beautiful thing.
Of course, this book is also an excellent resource to better understand yourself and your loved ones through the study of Vedic Astology charts. After all, there is so much wisdom found in the stars, and this book definitely has aided me in putting this wisdom into ever greater context!
I hope that you have enjoyed this review of The Divine Forces of the Lunar Nakshatras. Have you read this book? Do you have an interest in studying Vedic Astrology? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below!

To answer your questions: I haven’t read the book yet, but your review has absolutely piqued my interest in Vedic Astrology! The way you describe its mythological roots makes it sound like a living, storied system, which is incredibly appealing.
