Welcome back to White Rose of Avalon, my Darlings. For today’s Mermaid Monday blog post, I will be discussing what it means to have a Venus-ruled Vedic Astrology birth chart and how it has affected my life! I thought that this was an ideal Mermaid Monday topic, given that Venus, as a planet, is so tied to watery energy. What with one of the most famous myths of the Birth of Venus, so often depicted in art, featuring her rising up from the Seafoam, fully formed as a Goddess!
So, in Vedic Astrology, the chart ruler is not determined by the ruling planet of the Ascendant sign, as it is in Western Tropical Astrology and in simpler forms of Sidereal Astrology. In Vedic Astrology, chart rulership is determined by the ruling planet of your Moon’s Nakshatra. My Moon in my birth chart falls in the Nakshatra of Purva Phalguni, which is ruled by Venus, hence my chart is ruled by Venus! Interestingly, in regular Sidereal Astrology, my chart ruler would be the Moon, with my Cancer Ascendant, showing an interestingly deeply feminine chart in general.
Now, what exactly does it mean to me to have a chart ruled by the planet Venus? Well, firstly, when I began studying Vedic Astrology last year, learning that my chart was ruled by Venus was a moment of clarity. I have always felt so drawn to Venusian energy, which is why I work so deeply with the Celtic Venus in my personal practice and work with and teach about Celtic Venusian Faery Queens. So, much like finding out my chart in Vedic Astrology is incredibly watery, this made sense to me. Honestly, learning that in Vedic Astrology, my chart was ruled by the planet Venus was a bit of a lightning bolt moment for me. That is possibly one of the things that first told me that I needed to learn more about Sidereal and Vedic Astrology. There was obviously something I was meant to learn through studying Vedic Astrology, some innate Soul Level Truths that would open up if I was willing to dive into my chart!
As for how this impacts my life, I think it firstly makes an impact by having the puzzle pieces of what never made sense in my Tropical Birth Chart fall into place when studying Vedic Astrology. You see, I have always felt far more inclined to follow my heart and listen to my intuition rather than to live from a place of pure logic. I have always been someone who valued heart-centered intentions and felt incredibly deeply. Likewise, I have always been someone who adored beauty in all of its forms. For instance, surrounding myself with beauty in my home is something that brings me immense joy and certainly aids in promoting a sense of calm, a sense of emotional regulation.
The love of beauty, the deeply emotional nature, and the desire to follow my heart, all of these are very Venusian qualities. This is further underscored by my personality. As many of my regular readers will know, I work deeply with archetypes, both magickally and psychologically. The archetype most present in my personality, the one that has been active since birth, is the Creatrix. The Creatrix is also often called the Lover, the Enchantress, and in Jean Shinoda Bolen’s Goddesses in Everywoman system, the Aphrodite Archetype. She is the energy of the muse, the Alchemical energy of creation, and she is also an artist herself. The Creatrix is intimately linked with Venusian energy, proving just how deep this connection runs!
To finish off this meditative reflection on how being Venus-ruled impacts my life, I want to note some of my favorite ways to feel at my best, my most Venusian. I love to prioritize romanticizing life, this can be as simple as wearing my favorite perfume when I will be going nowhere, or drinking my tea out of a delicate teacup instead of a mug, or even taking a nap without guilt. I also prioritize pleasure! Most importantly, I prioritize doing things that give me pleasure, and do my best not to feel guilty about it. Finally, I view beauty as something much deeper than vanity. I view beauty as sacred in and of itself, as something that comes from deep within the Soul, and I remind others of what true beauty means!
I hope that you have enjoyed reading this meditative reflection on what it means to me to be Venus-ruled. Do you know the ruling planets of your birth chart? Do you feel connected to your ruling planets? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below!

Maranda, thank you for sharing such a beautiful and insightful glimpse into your astrological journey. Your reflection on being Venus-ruled in Vedic Astrology is not only enlightening but feels like a serene, poetic meditation. The way you weave together mythology, personal practice, and daily life is truly captivating.
It’s fascinating how the shift to a Sidereal lens—with Venus emerging as your chart ruler through Purva Phalguni—provided that “lightning bolt” of clarity. It makes perfect sense that someone who works so deeply with Celtic Venusian Faery Queens and embodies the Creatrix archetype would find their cosmic blueprint echoing that same divine, creative, pleasure-centered frequency. You’ve described not just an astrological placement, but a soul path.
The way you honor Venusian energy in your daily life is deeply inspiring. Prioritizing beauty as sacred, romanticizing the mundane, and granting yourself permission to seek pleasure—these are more than practices; they are acts of devotion to the principle that rules your chart. It’s a powerful reminder that astrology, at its best, helps us align with our most authentic nature.
To answer your question: your post inspires me to look deeper into my own chart’s ruling planets, both in Western and Vedic systems. There’s a profound sense of belonging that comes when we find the cosmic patterns that mirror our inner truths, much like you have.
Thank you for this gorgeous contribution to Mermaid Monday. Your writing, like the Venus you describe, rises from the depths with grace, beauty, and formative power. Wishing you a week filled with sacred beauty and heart-led magic.
With appreciation,
Srikanth
