Welcome back to White Rose of Avalon, my Darlings. Blessed Imbolc and Happy St. Brigid’s Day! For today’s holiday post, I will be sharing a poem about tending the flame within the self!
Tending the Flame Within
by Maranda Wabik
The Candle is lit
The Flame has ignited
The Flame of this world
Is mirrored in the Flame in the Otherworld
It is the Flame of the Soul!
On this Imbolc night
I seek to tend the Sacred Soul Flame
So that I may feel truly whole!
I seek to tend the Sacred Soul Flame
So that I may be set to rights!
I seek to tend the Sacred Soul Flame
So that I can burn away the old!
I seek to tend the Sacred Soul Flame
So that I may call forth the new!
By tending to the Sacred Flame within
I feel my inner light shine,
As I become illuminated by the Divine!
Tending to the Sacred Flame within,
Allows the endless dance of light and shadow
To come into balance!
As the days become longer,
And the Springtime is nearly ready to fill the air,
After the cold Winter’s slumber!
~I hope you have enjoyed this Imbolc poem. Have you begun to see the first signs of Spring on the horizon yet? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below!

What a beautiful and timely reflection, Maranda. Thank you for sharing your poem on this sacred day.
Your words truly capture the essence of Imbolc—not just as a turning of the earth, but as a profound, internal turning. The metaphor of the soul as a mirrored flame, tended between this world and the Otherworld, is stunning. It speaks to the deep work of this season: the careful, compassionate stewardship of our own inner light after the long winter’s slumber.
I especially love the purposeful repetition in your stanzas; it feels like a gentle, meditative chant or a series of intentions spoken over a candle. Each line “I seek to tend…” is like adding another breath to make the flame burn clearer and brighter. The acknowledgment of both “light and shadow” coming into balance feels deeply wise—true tending isn’t about creating only blinding light, but about honoring the whole self so it can burn with a steady, resilient glow.
Your poem is a lovely reminder that as we watch for the first green shoots in the world, the most important tending happens within. May your own Sacred Soul Flame burn brightly, illuminating your path as we all step toward the growing light.
Blessed Imbolc and Happy St. Brigid’s Day to you as well 🌷🤝
