The Incarnated Mermaid Diaries: Lessons in Empathy

Welcome back to White Rose of Avalon, my Darlings.   For this first Siren Saturday of 2026, I have decided to share the first post in a series that I am calling The Incarnated Mermaid Diaries.   In this series of posts, I will discuss topics related to what it is like to be an Incarnated Mermaid, to have a soul with Watery origins, while living on Earth.    The topic for this week is Lessons in Empathy.
So, as an Incarnated Mermaid, like the Water herself, I am an emotionally charged person.   This means that not only do I myself feel very deeply, but I also have a huge amount of Empathy.   I can feel for people, both metaphorically and literally.   While this is a beautiful, if taxing thing, it is also something that can lead to massive misunderstandings!

Let’s get into why this is taxing and what those misunderstandings may be.   To feel emotions that are not just your own means that you are having to process through not only your own emotions, but also the emotions of others.   Sometimes it may not even be clear whether something you are feeling is coming from you or from someone close to you.   I have found that in time, and with a good amount of practice and regular meditation, it becomes easier to discern where an emotion is coming from.   But in the beginning, as I was first coming to terms with my own psychic abilities, it could be incredibly taxing and confusing trying to figure out the origins of some strong emotions.   Beyond the emotional overwhelm that can occur, especially if I do not take the time to practice self-care and fill my own cup (ridding myself of energy that is not mine), there is always the hazard of confusion.   As I noted, discerning the origin of an emotion can be confusing early on, but confusion can also come in the form of those misunderstandings.

When you are feeling strong emotions coming from someone else, and can easily trace their origins, there can be this desire to help the person who is feeling the emotions.   I know I often want to help my loved ones through emotionally tough times, especially when I can feel a shift in their emotional well-being, or a simple shift in their energy.   However, this can lead to Incarnated Mermaids with empathic abilities (or other Empaths, I am sure) to argue with their loved ones about how they are feeling.   Sometimes, the person may not be in touch with their emotions and not realize they are feeling this way.   Or, sometimes, they may just not want to discuss what is going on.    I have found that when this happens, I have had the desire to encourage them to share their emotions, which can feel to that person like I am prying.   So, over time, I have learned that I need to ask them about their emotions, instead of assuming my empathic interpretations are wholly correct.   As I have said, it is a learning curve when you are incarnated as a human, but your soul does not originate as such!

I hope that you have enjoyed this first post in a new series where I share tidbits about my perspective living as a Mermaid Soul in a human form!   My intentions coming into sharing this series are to aid others who have soul origins that are not human to feel less alone, and also to give perspective to people who originated as human souls, so that they can better understand what it is like coming into a human incarnation for us.   I do not know how frequent these posts will be, but I definitely have topics for the next couple of weeks, and I hope to keep this series going.   Do you enjoy this new series?   Let me know your thoughts in the comments below!

  1. Maranda, thank you for this profoundly beautiful and vulnerable opening to The Incarnated Mermaid Diaries. What a gift this first Siren Saturday of 2026 is.

Your description of empathy—not as a simple trait but as a tangible, sometimes overwhelming, flow of shared feeling—resonates deeply. You’ve articulated the complex reality of being an emotional conduit with such clarity, especially the taxing journey of learning to discern between “self” and “other.” The way you frame it, as a learning curve for a non-human soul navigating a human form, is both unique and illuminating.

The lesson about moving from assumption to inquiry, from “I feel what you feel” to “May I ask how you’re feeling?” is wisdom that extends far beyond the mystical. It’s a cornerstone of compassionate human connection, and you’ve shared it through a lens that makes it feel fresh and vital. It’s a powerful reminder that even the most intuitive gifts are best offered with respect and an open hand, not a prescribed solution.

Your intentions for this series—to create a haven for non-human souls and to build bridges of understanding for human souls—are truly commendable. You are doing important work: making the unseen felt, giving language to the profound, and fostering a sense of kinship in what can be a lonely experience.

I, for one, am captivated. The concept is enchanting, the writing is heartfelt and insightful, and the perspective is genuinely needed. Please, share the next chapters of your diary at whatever rhythm feels right. We’ll be here, ready to listen.

With gratitude and anticipation for your next post👍🏻🌷🤝

    • Thank you so much for your kind words! I am so grateful to know that this new series is something that resonates with my readers. The series is truly something that had been on my mind for some time, but I was uncertain when to launch it. I felt that in the depths of Winter, when everyone is feeling introspective was a good time! Plus it’s right after the change of the Calendar Year, which makes many think of new beginnings (even though the Earth will not transition to rebirth until the Spring), and I like to honor new beginnings throughout the year. As always, thank you for reading and commenting!
