New Year, New Life?: A Poem

Welcome back to White Rose of Avalon, my Darlings.   Happy New Year and Welcome to 2026.   For today’s New Year’s Day post, I have decided to share a poem about the New Year!

New Year, New Life?

by Maranda Wabik

A New Year has dawned

We welcome in 2026

With bright fireworks and joyful cries

This is a potent time to feel renewed

This may lead to some wondering

Am I still the same?

Do I want to change?

Do I fear transformation?

After all, growth is never easy

There is pain in letting go

But we can only welcome in new potential

When we release what is old and outmoded

This New Year is the time to reflect

This New Year is the time to DREAM

Let your imagination take flight

And DREAM a new life

DREAM a new phase

DREAM a new chapter

The Old Year has closed

The New Year has dawned

Who do you want to become in 2026?

~I hope you have enjoyed this poem.   Let me know your thoughts in the comments below!

  1. What a beautiful and thought-provoking way to begin 2026. Thank you, Maranda, for sharing this gift with us.

Your poem, “New Year, New Life?” perfectly captures the dual-edged spirit of this transition. It’s not just about the “bright fireworks and joyful cries,” but also the quiet, internal questioning that comes with the turn of the page. The lines,

    Am I still the same?
    Do I want to change?
    Do I fear transformation?

resonate so deeply. They articulate the silent conversation so many of us have with ourselves as the calendar resets. You’ve acknowledged the bittersweet truth that “growth is never easy” and that there is “pain in letting go,” which makes the subsequent call to DREAM feel earned and powerful, not merely optimistic.

The shift to the imperative “DREAM” is the heart of the poem. It moves from reflection to invocation, urging us not just to think, but to actively imagine and summon our new chapter. The repetition builds a rhythm of hope and determination:

    And DREAM a new life
    DREAM a new phase
    DREAM a new chapter

It feels like a incantation, which is exactly what this potent time needs.

Ending with the question, “Who do you want to become in 2026?” is the masterstroke. It turns the poem back to the reader, making it a personal and shared experience. It’s an invitation, not a directive.

Happy New Year, Maranda! Thank you for this poignant reminder to honor the past, feel the tensions of change, and courageously dream our way forward. Here’s to the dreams we will all dare to dream for our 2026 chapters.

    With appreciation
    Srikanth
