Welcome back to White Rose of Avalon, my Darlings. For today’s post, I have decided to share a poem about the dichotomy of Ice and Flame during Winter.
Snowfall and Candle Flame
by Maranda Wabik
The Snow slowly blankets the ground
The wind whistles outside the window
A feeling of solitude abounds
As I look on from my cozy spot
Watching the Snowfall
By light of the Candle Flame
I know that while the night is dark,
While the Winter is cold,
While there is much uncertainty to behold,
I am safe at this time, in my home,
Beside my hearth,
With the loved ones from whom I wish never to part
It is the dark and cold time
It is the time when we are full of hope
It is the time when we are often full of fear
But it is also the time when we find
Those whom we can truly trust
All the months of the year!
~I hope you have enjoyed this poem. Let me know your thoughts in the comments below!

What a beautiful and contemplative poem, Maranda. Thank you for sharing it with us.
You’ve captured the very essence of a winter’s evening so perfectly—the quiet, almost meditative observation of the storm from a place of safety. The dichotomy you set up between the external world (“slowly blankets,” “whistles,” “dark,” “cold,” “uncertainty”) and the internal sanctuary (“cozy spot,” “Candle Flame,” “safe,” “hearth,” “loved ones”) is profoundly moving.
The turn in the final stanza is particularly powerful. You move from the personal moment to a universal truth: that this “dark and cold time,” which can hold both hope and fear, is paradoxically the season that most reveals and refines the warmth of human connection. The line “it is also the time when we find / Those whom we can truly trust / All the months of the year!” is a stunning conclusion. It suggests that the trust and comfort forged in winter’s depth becomes the enduring foundation for the entire year.
The gentle rhythm and the recurring images of the Snowfall and the Candle Flame tie the poem together like a soothing, visual refrain. It feels like a heartfelt reminder to cherish our shelters, both physical and emotional.
This was a lovely, grounding read for a winter’s day. Thank you for this gift of reflection.🌷🤝
I am delighted that you enjoyed the poem! I am also happy that the dichotomy of Ice and Flame that I worked with in the poem resonated with you. As always, thanks for reading and commenting!
You are most welcome Maranda 🌷🤝
