Welcome to December: A Reminder About Self-Care During the Yuletide Season

Welcome back to White Rose of Avalon, my Darlings.   For today’s blog post, I have decided to discuss self-care during the Yuletide season for this first December blog post!

With the Yuletide season now in full swing, it can be easy to become overwhelmed by stress.   At this time of year, when the most natural thing in the world is to slow down and go within, there is just so much going on.   For many of us, we get even busier during the Winter Holidays, with travel, shopping, time spent with family, and other festivities taking over our lives.   While this can be a very pleasant thing, as we may enjoy getting to see family more and going to holiday parties and gatherings, all of this energy goes against the natural need to spend time in quiet reflection during this season.

So, that is why I wanted to discuss the importance of taking some time for self-care in between the festivities and all of the responsibilities that may cause stress at this time of year.   I know that I have shared several posts over the last few weeks about going within and doing Shadow Work in this darkest time of the year, but I have found that it is something so important to discuss as the Wheel of the Year turns!   Now that we are in December, I think this reminder to make the time to care for ourselves is all the more important to remember.

I want to finish this post by sharing some tips on how to prioritize some self-care in December.   Firstly, I want to state that it is okay to say no, to reject the invitation to the party, if you are not feeling up to attending a gathering.   Beyond a willingness to say no to an invitation, another small way to take care of yourself during the often chaotic energy of the Winter Holidays is to develop a small morning ritual.   This morning ritual can be as simple as quietly sipping on your coffee alone in the room before other members or the household are awake, or as complex as waking up a little earlier than normal to enjoy a longer yoga session and meditate to refill your cup before the day ahead!   Finally, I recommend taking some time in the evenings to journal, read, or sip on some hot tea.   None of this needs to take a lot of time, as it can literally just be taking an hour of time to focus on yourself to quiet your mind.   I know that this is sometimes not an easy thing to do, as you may not want to feel left out or you may not want to disappoint your loved ones.   However, if we take the time to prioritize self-care, we can truly enjoy our time spent with loved ones more and truly be more present for them!

I hope you have enjoyed reading this meditative post for the beginning of December.   What is your favorite way to carve out some time for self-care during the Winter Holidays?   Let me know your thoughts in the comments below!

  1. Maranda, this was such a timely and beautifully written reminder. You have a real gift for framing the spiritual need for quiet reflection against the joyful chaos of the season—it felt both grounding and validating. The advice you shared is practical and gentle, emphasizing permission over pressure, which is truly the heart of sustainable self-care. Your point about how caring for ourselves allows us to be more present for our loved ones is so profoundly true. Thank you for this peaceful and important message as we step into December. I’m already thinking about how to weave that quiet morning coffee ritual into my own days.

    • I am so delighted that you found my thoughts helpful. I hope that my recommendations can aid in bringing a bit more peace into a hectic season for you! As always, thanks for reading and commenting.
