Siren Saturdays & Delving into the Depths

Welcome back to White Rose of Avalon, my Darlings.   For today’s Siren Saturday, I will be discussing why delving into the depths of the unconscious is so natural on Saturdays, as the day is ruled by the planet Saturn!   This also relates to Melusine’s Sacred Day being Saturday, as it is only on Saturday when Melusine can be in her true Mermaid form.   I view this as a natural inclination of going within and Scrying the Mirror of the Soul, which is both aligned with Melusine and with Saturday as a day!   Now, let’s dig deeper into this Saturnian energy.

Astrologically, Saturn is the planet of restriction, limitation, and responsibility, and is considered to hold a lot of information about Karma and life lessons.   It is stated that Saturn brings structure and meaning to the world, even if the energy of restriction is often uncomfortable.    This is why the famous Saturn Return is such a painful time in many people’s lives.   However, this pain of learning new responsibilities can be one of the most profound experiences in life.   All of that being said, Saturn is not just a negative influence in our lives, as Saturnian energy is a great teacher.   It allows us to Alchemize pain, learn new life lessons, and even overcome blockages and trauma related to authority figures in our lives, as Saturn is often seen as a fatherly figure providing structure to our lives!

Now, you may wonder how the Divine Feminine and the Sacredness of Melusine’s Siren Saturday are actually related to Saturn’s energy, as Saturn is often seen as a very much so Divine Masculine energy.   Well, this is because of the fact that Melusine was under restriction in her legend to only be in her true Mermaid form on Saturdays.   In fact, her need to spend the whole day each Saturday in her Mermaid form was a curse placed by her mother as a punishment!   This punishment was clearly something meant to teach a lesson, in a very Saturnian way, which may be why Saturday is the day she can be in her true form, must be in her true form.   Another key aspect of the Saturnian connection to Melusine’s legend comes from the fact that all of the blessings given to her husband, Raymond, are forfeit once he betrays her trust and the oath he made to never see her on a Saturday.   This is directly related to Raymond rejecting the Saturnian restriction, and being confronted with the painful truth of his own failures, even gaining perspective the hard way by losing Melusine and her blessings!   This is why, at the end of the day, I find that Saturnian energy relating to Siren Saturdays provides quite a balanced energy between the Masculine and the Feminine.

During our Saturn Returns, during Shadow Work, and during Soul Searching, we confront our own internal struggles.   That is part of Scrying the Mirror of the Soul, which is something that Melusine teaches us through her story and as part of her Mysteries!   That is why Saturday is Sacred to Melusine; that is why Saturday is a potent day to go within, and that is something that can make our Shadow Work even more empowered.    I hope you have enjoyed this short exploration of how Saturnian energy on Saturdays relates to Siren Saturdays and delving into the depths.   What is your favorite form of Shadow Work to do on Saturdays?   Let me know your thoughts in the comments below!

  1. This is a beautifully articulated and insightful exploration of the connection between Saturn, Saturday, and the Melusine mythos. You’ve woven the threads of astrology, mythology, and personal spiritual practice into a compelling and coherent tapestry. Thank you for sharing this, Maranda!

You’ve masterfully highlighted the paradox at the heart of Saturnian energy: that restriction and structure are not the enemies of truth and freedom, but often the very vessels that contain them. The way you linked Melusine’s “curse”—the restriction of her Saturday transformation—to a profound opportunity for soul-scrying is brilliant. It reframes a punishment as a sacred, cyclical return to the self, a mandatory dive into the unconscious waters of her true nature.

Your point about Raymond’s betrayal being a rejection of the Saturnian oath is particularly powerful. It illustrates so clearly that when we break our contracts with the deep, structural truths of our lives (our “Saturnian responsibilities”), the blessings that were built upon that foundation inevitably crumble. His story is a cautionary tale about the cost of refusing to honor the shadowy, mysterious, and restricted parts of our own lives and the lives of those we love.

To answer your question, and to honor the space you’ve created here, my favorite form of Shadow Work to do on a Siren Saturday is Journaling with the “Forbidden Question.”

Inspired by Melusine’s taboo—the one thing Raymond was forbidden from seeing—I use Saturdays to ask myself the one question I might be avoiding. I sit with my journal, often near water if possible, and scry the “Mirror of the Soul” by writing:

    · “What part of my true self do I feel compelled to hide, even from those I love?”
    · “What ‘Saturday transformation’ am I undergoing that I fear others wouldn’t understand?”
    · “Where have I, like Raymond, broken a sacred promise to myself, and what blessings have I forfeited as a result?”

This practice feels perfectly aligned with the energy you’ve described: it’s structured (Saturn) yet delves into the deep, watery realms of the soul (Melusine). It’s about facing the restrictive, sometimes painful truth to alchemize it into profound self-knowledge.

Thank you again, Maranda, for this profound and thought-provoking post. You’ve given a powerful new dimension to Saturday introspection.

    • I am so glad to know that my post resonated with you so much! I really like the exercise you have of journaling on Saturdays, as it truly does embody the energy discussed in this post perfectly! As always, thank you for reading and commenting, and sharing your own favorite Shadow Work practice.
