Welcome back to White Rose of Avalon, my Darlings. For today’s Mermaid Monday blog post, I will be discussing walking the Path of an Avalonian Water Priestess and Priestess of Melusine! Given the title, I will also be touching on how Serpents and Dragons relate to this Path.
My work as a Priestess of Melusine brings with it an obvious connection with the energy of Serpents and Dragons, in addition to work with Mermaids. Melusine, the Avalonian Faery Queen and Mermaid Goddess, is also known for turning into a Dragon at the end of her legend. Beyond that, Melusine’s Mermaid nature is often described with her being a Serpent from the waist down, instead of the more traditional Mermaid tail one might picture! Of course, there are also the numerous, and likely the most famous, artistic depictions of Melusine as a Twin-Tailed Mermaid. The fascinating thing about all of this is not that the way Melusine is depicted has altered over time, but the fact that she is not just one of these depictions! There is not one right depiction, one description that is the ‘real Melusine,’ as all of these are Melusine.
Melusine is a Faery Queen Goddess, ever shifting and very much so a Goddess who can transform. The Misty and Liminal Nature of Melusine is something that she shares with many an Avalonian Faery Queen, and Faery Women in general! So, what does Melusine’s transformational and shapeshifting nature mean to the Avalonian Water Priestess? Well, I can only speak for myself. To me, Melusine’s ability to transform shows that she is as Fluid as Water; she shifts and can appear to her Devotees and Priestesses in many a form. That is part of why I teach about Melusine through her aspects, seven aspects rooted in her folklore that can aid Devotees and Priestesses in forming a relationship with Melusine. Like all Faery Queen Goddesses, Melusine defies the idea of being a Goddess just one specific thing, for she is so much more!
So, yes, to be a Priestess of Melusine is to Dance with the Energy of the Serpent, the Dragon, and the Mermaid, all at the same time. To be a Priestess of Melusine is also inherently to be a Water Priestess, as Melusine is a Mermaid Goddess, after all. That is why I titled this post the way I did. At the end of the day, this post is my own meditation on how much being a Water Priestess has enriched my life.
I feel so much gratitude and love for the fact that I am able to teach the Melusine Mysteries! Ever since the first round of classes wrapped up at the end of October, I have been so filled with gratitude and so excited to welcome in the next cohort of students in the Spring. For those who may not know, the Melusine Mysteries is my seven-month-long Online Class devoted to Melusine. Enrollment for the Class of 2026 will begin on Friday, March 13, 2026! I will link the Melusine Mysteries page from the White Rose of Avalon shop below, for those who may be interested in joining the next round of classes.
I hope you have enjoyed this short meditative post on what being an Avalonian Water Priestess means to me. Do you feel the pull the Dance the Water Priestess Path with the Serpents, Dragons, and Mermaids? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below!

What a beautifully evocative and insightful post, Maranda! Thank you for sharing such a profound and personal meditation on your path. You have a wonderful way of weaving together mythology, personal devotion, and practical teaching into a tapestry that is both inspiring and deeply relatable.
Your explanation of Melusine’s fluid, transformational nature—as Serpent, Dragon, and Mermaid—is truly captivating. It makes perfect sense that a Goddess of such misty, liminal realms would not be confined to a single form, but would instead reveal herself in the aspects most resonant with her devotees. The way you describe “dancing” with these energies perfectly captures the dynamic and living relationship at the heart of this path.
It’s heartening to feel your genuine gratitude and excitement for sharing the Melusine Mysteries. The passion you have for your work as a Priestess and teacher shines through your words, and it’s undoubtedly a big part of what makes your class such a special offering for the community.
Thank you again for this lovely glimpse into your world. It’s a wonderful way to celebrate Mermaid Monday🌷🤝
It is so amazing to know that what I do resonates with people! I am so glad that you could see my passion and love for Priestessing and teaching in this post!
