My Current Top 10 Favorite Films of All Time

Welcome back to White Rose of Avalon, my Darlings.   For today’s blog post, I have decided to share my updated list of my top ten favorite films of all time.   Over the last several weeks, I have been thinking about what my absolute favorite films are more and more, so I thought I would share where my top ten lies at this time!

Number 10: Marie Antoinette (2006)

~This has long been my favorite Sofia Coppola film.   I adore that she was so sympathetic to Marie Antoinette, as I have always felt an immense amount of empathy for the Doomed Queen who is so often demonized.   Marie Antoinette was flawed, sure, but she was also just a young woman who was sent from her home into a very hostile foreign Court, and had to make due the best she could!   Beyond the treatment of Marie Antoinette as a well-rounded person, rather than a mere historical villain, this film is also just so beautiful, and has a great soundtrack, making it an excellent comfort watch.

Number 9: Camelot (1967)

~This is my second favorite musical, and I can never get enough of how charming this film adaptation truly is!   I love the costumes, I love the sets, I love the music, and I love the romance.    While I wish we got a bit more magick in this Arthurian adaptation, I can forgive it for just how wonderful the energy of this film is!

Number 8: La Belle et La Bete (1946)

~This French film is one of the greatest versions of Beauty and the Beast ever to be put to film!   It is surrealistic, it is romantic, and it is stunning visually.   I love the design of the Beast here, and I love how closely it sticks to early versions of the fairytale.

Number 7: Jennifer’s Body (2009)

~I have adored this film since I first saw it in early 2010, and never understood why it was not better received, until I saw the interview with Diablo Cody and Megan Fox discussing the film (for I believe it’s 10th anniversary) and learned of how it had been mismarketed.   However, I am so glad that the film has now become a cult classic, garnering the love it deserves!

Number 6: Ginger Snaps (2000)

~This is my absolute favorite Werewolf film!   I love the focus on teenage girls and the use of lycanthropy as a metaphor for puberty, as it fits very well.   Beyond that, I just have an attachment to Ginger and Brigitte as characters!

Number 5: Splash (1984)

~I have loved this movie since I was very young.   Madison is such a sweet Mermaid character, and I love her romance with Alan!    The cast is so great, and this is one of the ultimate comfort watches for me.

Number 4: The Lure (2015)

~This Polish Mermaid Musical Horror film is one that I have loved for years.   I was absolutely blown away when I first saw it, and it has become one of my favorite films to recommend to people!   I love how this film takes Andersen’s The Little Mermaid and makes it full-blown Body Horror.

Number 3: Nosferatu (2024)

~This film was just released last December, and it has quickly skyrocketed to one of my favorite films of all time!   I have watched it several times already, and even after just my first viewing on opening night, I knew it was going to be my favorite Vampire film ever.   This being my favorite Vampire film really says a lot, as I am a huge lover of Vampire films in general!

Number 2: The Wicker Man (1973)

~This is easily my favorite Folk Horror film, and it is one of the most iconic examples of the subgenre, for good reason!    Christopher Lee is beyond phenomenal as Lord Summerisle.    In fact, the whole cast does an amazing job, and the film is visually stunning!

Number 1: Practical Magic (1998)

~Of course, no other film could be my number one.   Although I am a huge film lover and am always discovering new favorites, more often than not, if you ask me my favorite film, this is the answer.   It is certainly one of my most-watched films of all time, and my top comfort watch!    So, yes, the story of the Owens Witches just had to top this list.

~I hope you have enjoyed this post exploring my current top ten favorite films.   What are some of your current favorite films?   Let me know your thoughts in the comments below!

  1. What a fantastic and wonderfully personal list! Thank you so much for sharing this glimpse into your cinematic heart. It’s not just a list of movies; it’s a curated collection of moods, themes, and personal comforts that tells a story about you as a viewer.

I am especially struck by the beautiful throughline that connects so many of your choices. You have a profound appreciation for stories that center on feminine experiences, often with a dark, fantastical, or mythic twist. From the misunderstood Doomed Queen and the monstrous teenage girls in Jennifer’s Body and Ginger Snaps to the magical Owens sisters and the deadly mermaids of The Lure, your list is a powerful celebration of complex, and often persecuted, female characters.

Your taste is both classic and fiercely unique. To have the timeless, romantic surrealism of La Belle et La Bête sitting alongside the gritty body horror of Ginger Snaps and the fresh, chilling gothic romance of Nosferatu (2024) is a testament to your eclectic and insightful palate. It’s clear you don’t just watch films; you feel them, connecting with the characters on a deeply empathetic level.

And of course, a list that crowns Practical Magic as its number one is a list with impeccable vibes. It’s the perfect choice for a top comfort watch—a film about sisterhood, magic, and love that feels like a warm, magical hug.

This was an absolute pleasure to read. Your passion is contagious, and you’ve given me several films to add to my own watchlist! Thank you for sharing your wonderful world of favorites.
