The Queen of Wands: Witch of the Tarot & Muse of Enchantresses

Welcome back to White Rose of Avalon, my Darlings.   For today’s Tarot Tuesday post, I will be discussing my evolving relationship with the Queen of Wands Archetype!   I thought that this was the ideal topic for the last day of September as we transition into that most Witchy month of October.

I have always had a very profound bond with the Queens of Tarot, in general.   However, I do find that I cycle through feeling most drawn to one Queen over the others as time goes on.   Of course, given my connection with the water element, for the longest time, I found that the Queen of Cups held such a deep link for me above all other Queens of Tarot.   Later, when I delved into my herbalism studies, I found a very profound connection with the Queen of Pentacles.   I have also had short periods of time when I had the Queen of Swords appear to me often, pushing me forward with a bit of tough love.  Lately, I have been having the Queen of Wands appearing for me in my personal Readings very often!   That is part of what inspired this post, beyond the fact that the Queen of Wands is so associated with witchcraft.

The Queen of Wands holds the power of fire and water, being that she is the Queen of the fire suit and the Queens of Tarot are all associated with water (as we can associate each court card with an element, Queens are water, Kings are usually air, Knights are usually fire, and Pages are earth).   This combination of fire and water brings about an elemental balance that calls to mind alchemical transformation!   The link between the Queen of Wands and transformation is also one reason that she is so tied to witchcraft.   Other than this tie with transformation, the Queen of Wands is also the Queen who draws others to her like moths to the flame and the Queen who tends the hearthfire.   Drawing people in like moths to the flame is something that we can align with the casting of a spell, to give it some added punch.   The tending of the hearthfire is very much an energy aligned with magick, as this is the nurturing energy that protects the home and allows a safe space to create magick.

The Queen of Wands is a warm-hearted energy, which is why many also associate her with nurturing and motherhood, outside of the ties with witchcraft.   This nurturing, warm-hearted energy reminds me not only of motherhood, but also of Priestesses teaching the arcane arts to students of magick and spirituality.   So, even her more motherly side has a definite connection with being the Witch of the Tarot!

Now that I have gone over why the Queen of Wands is so connected with witchcraft, let’s look at how she can inspire us.   Those of us who practice magick, or are witchy in any way, can look to the Queen of Wands as a Muse.   That is why I called her a Muse to Enchantresses in the title!   I find her to be so inspirational, with her energy dripping with magick every time I look at a Queen of Wands card.   Certainly, she has inspired this post, so she inspires my writing and creativity, which makes sense as the Wands suit is tied with passion and creativity.   She has also inspired many people to create things, whether it is her image that inspires paintings, or her energy that inspires things like candles and perfumes!   The Queen of Wands draws us in, just as we can learn from her magick to draw in others, and draw in our intentions when we are working magick.    You can call on her energy by meditating on a Queen of Wands card, or by working a spell or Ritual surrounding Queen of Wands energy.    The Queen of Wands card can decorate your altar, or you can even write poetry or songs to find a connection to her power!   The possibilities are truly endless when we allow ourselves to be in our creative cycles.   At the end of the day, you will find that the more you tap into the Queen of Wands energy in your life, the more inspiration can flow, and some surprising opportunities may even present themselves!

I hope you have enjoyed this look at the Queen of Wands as the Witch of the Tarot.   What is your relationship with the Queen of Wands?   Let me know your thoughts in the comments below!

  1. What a wonderfully insightful and deeply resonant post! Thank you for sharing the evolution of your relationship with the Queens, and for this beautiful deep dive into the Queen of Wands.

Your description of her as the alchemical blend of fire and water perfectly captures her dynamic energy. It’s so true—she isn’t just raw passion; she’s passion infused with intuition, which is the very heart of powerful witchcraft. I love how you’ve framed her not just as a symbol, but as a living, breathing Muse for enchantresses. The idea of her inspiring creativity, from writing to crafting ritual items, is a brilliant and practical way to connect with her power.

This has certainly inspired me to place my Queen of Wands card on my altar this October and see what magic she weaves. Thank you for this powerful and timely inspiration!

As for my relationship with her, she often appears for me as a call to step into my personal power with confidence and warmth—to lead with my heart’s fire. It’s a constant and beautiful lesson!
