Welcome back to White Rose of Avalon, my Darlings.   For today’s blog post, I will be discussing my primary Animal Guardian Spirits from each of the 3 Realms of Celtic Cosmology.   I realized that my three primary Animal Guardians, who have been part of my spiritual Journey (especially over the last few years), are aligned with the 3 Realms of Celtic Cosmology.   Now, to clarify, I do want to acknowledge that I have a spiritual connection to several other animals, but these three have been coming forward the most in recent years.   Those 3 Realms are the Realm of Land, the Realm of Sky, and the Realm of Sea.   Without further ado, let’s look at these Animal Guardians!

Rabbit (or Hare) ~ The Realm of Land

~The Rabbit is a very lively and very abundant animal.   They are known for their fertility and for their sweetness.   These animals are herbivores, which I definitely have an affinity with, given that I myself do not eat meat (I am a pescatarian).   In the case of Hares, they are incredibly quick, and I associate them with quick-wittedness.   The Rabbit is a very fun-loving Animal Guardian, as they are very playful and also very cuddly!   Given their herbivore nature, their association with abundance, and the fact that they live on land, it is easy to see why they are associated with the Realm of Land.   

Raven (or Crow) ~ The Realm of Sky

~The Raven is the Otherworldly Messenger, an animal associated with being able to travel across the realms.   They are incredibly intelligent and known for their wisdom and observation!   The Raven is a very powerful Animal Guardian, as they are in many ways Psychopomps who can aid us on our quests to gain a greater degree of self-understanding.   Ravens and Crows have a true affinity for leading the Journey into the Shadow, confronting all of that which we need to deal with in order to Alchemize our Pain!   Given their incredible intelligence (as intellect is associated with the air element), their nature as Psychopomps, and the fact that they are birds, it is easy to see why they are associated with the Realm of Sky.   

Seal ~ The Realm of Sea
~The Seal is another playful animal, swimming through the Sea with all of her friends.   These animals are associated with curiosity and experiences, loving to be around other creatures, even humans.   The Seal is a sweet-natured animal that I often associate with care, community, and the freedom of the Sea.   As an Animal Guardian, the Seal has a profound link to my life because of Selkies, the Mermaids who are Seal Women!   The Selkies always desire to return to the Sea and return to their families when they have been trapped in a marriage after having their Seal Skin stolen.   This is very painful for a Seal, as they are so attached to their loved ones and to the Sea herself!    Of course, by the end of the Selkie’s story, she is free from her unwanted marriage, having regained her Seal Skin and returned to the Sea.   Given their nature as aquatic animals, their nature as very open-hearted and emotionally intelligent creatures, and their connection with the legends of Mermaids through Selkie stories, it is easy to see why they are associated with the Realm of Sea.
