Welcome back to White Rose of Avalon, my Darlings. For this week’s Femme Fatale Friday blog post, I will be discussing Cinderella and the power of true kindness that we can draw inspiration from when working with the Soft Feminine and Light Feminine energies!
We all know the story of Cinderella, or at least one version of it, as it is a staple in childhood. The titular character has lost her mother, so her father remarried, but then he also dies, leaving Cinderella with her wicked Stepmother and Stepsisters. You see, Cinderella is tested by her Stepmother time and again. After losing both of her biological parents, Cinderella was treated like a servant by her Stepmother. We know this part of the fairytale very well, as this is within basically all versions of the story. However, we can read the fact that Cinderella is placed in an unfair and servile position by her Stepmother and Stepsisters as a test of her spiritual nature. What is being tested is her true internal goodness, the treasure that is held within her pure heart!
When we look at this atrocious treatment of Cinderella by her hate-filled Stepmother and Stepsisters, it shows just how truly forgiving and love-filled Cinderella herself is. We see this through how she reacts to this ill-treatment. Cinderella even forgives the malicious treatment in many versions of the fairytale! But, even in the darker versions, when her Stepmother and Stepsisters are punished, she still held her head high and accepted the chores that she was assigned for years as her unjust punishment dragged on. Cinderella is kind and helpful, seemingly enjoying being of service to others, but she still feels pain at the fact that her Stepmother and Stepsisters so obviously hate her.
One gets the idea that she would have happily helped her Stepmother and Stepsisters willingly, had they been kind to her in return. Instead, they were harsh and hateful, forcing her to do these tasks instead of asking with kindness. That hateful treatment is why she would eventually go on to seek to escape her position!
The truly good-hearted energy of Cinderella is what allowed her to be blessed by her Fairy Godmother. In fact, in some versions, it is Cinderella’s Mother who sends the Fairy Godmother to her, or even her Mother’s spirit is the one that blesses her. There is a lot of variance with the Fairy Godmother part of the fairytale across versions, actually. In some versions, Cinderella gains blessings from her Mother’s Ghost or a Spirit sent by her Mother; sometimes the Spirit is the Fairy Godmother, sometimes not. One thing is always certain: the blessings that Cinderella receives are a reward for her truly good heart and pure intentions!
Once Cinderella received the blessings, she was able to attend the Ball thrown by the Prince. This is where her luck turns around, as she gains his attention. When her slipper is lost, whether it is Glass or not (as that is another point of much variance in the story), the Prince mounts an effort to find her! His love is what puts him on the path to being the catalyst to free Cinderella from her oppression. Their marriage cements Cinderella as a young woman who has gone from being a victim of her tragic circumstances to a woman who will one day be a Queen!
That is Cinderella’s ultimate reward for her good heart. Of course, sometimes her Stepmother and Stepsisters are roughly punished, and sometimes forgiven, further proving Cinderella’s good-naturedness. But no matter what, the story shows that kindness and an open heart will reap more rewards than acting with cruelty! I hope you have enjoyed this short look at Cinderella and the power of kindness.
