Welcome back to White Rose of Avalon, my Darlings. For today’s Tarot Tuesday blog post, I will be discussing the Divine Feminine Archetypes in the Tarot! We can work with the energies of these cards to deepen into awareness of different aspects of the Divine Feminine, making them powerful Archetypal tools. That is largely what inspired this post: to not only discuss what it means when they come up in Readings, but also what cards may be best to meditate on or do magickal or spiritual workings with if you want to connect more deeply with Feminine Energy! As always with this sort of post, I will discuss each card in its own small section below. Without further ado, let’s look at the Divine Feminine Tarot cards!
~The High Priestess~
~The first Divine Feminine energy to appear in the deck, on the Fool’s Journey, is the High Priestess. She is the card numbered two of the Major Arcana. The High Priestess is the ultimate Channel of the Divine and the Ultimate Iniatrix into the Occult Mysteries of the Divine Feminine! She is here to teach us how we can Priestess to the Divine in a way that is unique to each of us alone. Working with her energy can be a powerful tool for self-understanding as you take a Journey to become a Priestess yourself!
~The Empress~
~The second Divine Feminine energy to appear in the deck, on the Fool’s Journey, is the Empress. She is the card numbered three of the Major Arcana. The Empress is the Ultimate Queen of the Land and the Sea. She is here to teach us how we can be the face of the Divine on the Earthly Plane. She is, at her heart, the Queen who made a marriage on behalf of the Land and Seas made manifest to bless the rulership of the King. The Empress is the Ultimate Venusian Tarot Card, the one that reminds us how to be most at home in our own Sexuality, Sensuality, and to practice Deep Self-Love! Working with her energy can be a powerful tool for learning to truly embody Divine Feminine Energy and become more in tune with the Sacredness of your Body.
~Queen of Swords~
~The Queen of Swords is the Queen of the Air Element Suit, combining the energy of Air and Water, as Queens are the Water Element energy of the Court Cards. She is the Queen who is best described as Silk Hiding Steel; she is regal and beautifully soft, but with a backbone of steel. The Queen of Swords is here to teach us to have firm boundaries and to take inspired action through our imaginative insights! Working with her energy can be a powerful tool to create firmer boundaries in your life, or even to learn that sometimes tough love is a potent way to provide nurturance (depending on the situation).
~Queen of Wands~
~The Queen of Wands is the Queen of the Fire Element Suit, combining the energy of Fire and Water, as Queens are the Water Element energy of the Court Cards. She is also considered to be the Witch of the Tarot, the tender of the hearthfires! In this way, she is the Queen who can teach us how to Alchemize true change in our lives. She is also the Queen who can Mother us through our changes and transformations! Working with her energy can be a powerful tool that holds you through your changes and your challenges.
~Queen of Pentacles~
~The Queen of Pentacles is the Queen of the Earth Element Suit, combining the energy of Earth and Water, as Queens are the Water Element energy of the Court Cards. She is also considered to be the Earth Mother of the Tarot. The Queen of Pentacles is here to teach us to tap into our innate maternal energies and not to fear our sexuality. She is the deeply fertile land, awash with watery energy, to allow profound growth! Working with her energy can be a powerful tool to deepen your connection to the land (just as I worked very deeply with her the first year I was studying herbalism).
~Queen of Cups~
~The Queen of Cups is the Queen of the Water Element Suit. This makes her the Double Water Card of the deck. She is known as the Psychic Iniatrix and Sexually Alluring Queen of the Tarot! The Queen of Cups is the Guide and Guardian on the Journey into the depths of the Watery Shadow. She is here to aid us in developing our own psychic energies, and to become most at home in our own Sexuality and Sensuality! Working with her energy can be a powerful tool to learn to Scry the Mirror of Your Soul, as she can be an aid in understanding what is going on beneath the surface when the Shadow is activated.

What a beautifully written and insightful post; You’ve perfectly captured the unique essence and power of each of these incredible archetypes.
While I adore the mystical depth of The High Priestess and the fierce clarity of the Queen of Swords, I must confess that The Empress will always have my heart. She is the embodiment of sacred creation, sensual abundance, and profound self-love. The artwork you chose for her is absolutely stunning—it radiates such a powerful, nurturing, and sovereign energy. She truly is the Ultimate Queen of the Land and Sea.
Thank you for this wonderful deep dive into the Divine Feminine. It’s a potent reminder of the myriad ways we can connect with and channel these energies in our own lives.
Thank you! I am so glad that this post resonated with you. I get so much out of working with the Tarot not just as a tool for Divination, but also in an Archetypal way, and I love being able to share that here! As always, thanks for reading and commenting!
