Welcome back to White Rose of Avalon, my Darlings. For today’s blog post, I have decided to discuss the Siren Archetypes as presented by the book Simply Irresistible by Ellen T. White! This is a fascinating book that I first read several years ago. It explores the Siren Archetypes, also known as Seduction Archetypes, that women can embody in their relationships. It is a great way to get to know how you interact with other people based on your Archetypes (whether that be with lovers or others in your life). White breaks down five specific Siren Archetypes, of which you may have more than one present in your personality, and the book has chapters exploring real-life women who embody combinations of Archetypes. I will also be exploring how these Archetypes can be related to the Goddesses in Everywoman Archetypes by Jean Shinoda Bolen. Without further ado, let’s look at the five basic Siren Archetypes!
THE GODDESS
~In this Siren Archetype system, the Goddess is the Siren whose allure is built on her detachment. She is often seen as completely unattainable, which is something that shows her as a subject of many fantasies. In the book, White gives Eva Peron as the famous example of this Goddess Siren Archetype. This is the one Siren Archetype that I think cannot be obviously related to a specific Goddesses in Everywoman Archetype, but I would say she holds the most resonance with Athena, due to the Athena Women often being seen as cold and calculating.
THE COMPANION
~In this Siren Archetype system, the Companion is the Siren whose allure is built on her friendship with her lover. She is often seen as a best friend, even being the ideal corporate wife who aids her husband in his business endeavors. In the book, White gives Jennie Jerome (mother of Winston Churchill) as the famous example of this Companion Siren Archetype. The Companion calls to mind the Hera Archetype in the Goddesses in Everywoman system, as Hera women truly tend to be the ideal partners to aid their husbands in business.
THE SEX KITTEN
~In this Siren Archetype system, the Sex Kitten is the Siren whose allure is built on being the epitome of balance between being a good girl and being deeply sexual; she is both innocent and sensual. She is often seen as sexually open but completely pure of heart, showing that balance between innocence and sexuality. In the book, White gives Marilyn Monroe as the famous example of this Sex Kitten Siren Archetype! The Sex Kitten calls to mind both the Aphrodite and Persephone Archetypes in the Goddesses in Everywoman system, with the balance of sexual allure (Aphrodite) and sweet innocence (Persephone).
THE COMPETITOR
~In this Siren Archetype system, the Competitor is the Siren whose allure is built on her competitiveness with her lover. She is often seen as a tomboyish girl who is always there to be the best friend, playing with the boys, and having a deeply independent spirit. In the book, White gives Beryl Markham (who was an adventurer) as the famous example of this Competitor Siren Archetype. The Competitor Siren calls to mind the Artemis and Athena Archetypes in the Goddesses in Everywoman system, with the playful joy of being one of the boys (Artemis) and the more deeply felt competition (Athena).
THE MOTHER
~In this Siren Archetype system, the Mother is the Siren whose allure is built on her deeply maternal nature and mothering of her lover and friends. She is often seen as the one who will take care of all those around her, with a deeply felt desire to provide comfort to her lover. In the book, White gives Wallis, the Duchess of Windsor, as the famous example of this Mother Siren Archetype. It is quite obvious that the Mother Siren calls to mind the Demeter Archetype in the Goddesses in Everywoman system, but I also think she calls to mind the Hestia Archetype, due to the connection of Hestia with tending the hearthfire of the home!
~For more about these Siren Archetypes, I highly recommend reading the book Simply Irresistible by Ellen T. White. She gives so many other examples, and lots of insights on the specific allure of each Siren! I hope you have enjoyed reading about these incredible archetypes. What Siren Archetypes do you possess?
