Welcome back to White Rose of Avalon, my Darlings. For this week’s Femme Fatale Friday blog post, I will be discussing Undines, the Water Elementals, and the magick of Embodying Water!
Now, many of you may know the term Undine from the novella of that title by Friedrich de la Motte Fouqué, or the Opera based on that story. However, while the story popularized the concept of the Undine, it is just one story to discuss the Water Elementals. Undines are the living embodiment of Water, always seen as female (not to say that male counterparts do not exist, they are just not referred to as Undines, most simply calling them Mermen, as Undines do appear much like the traditional Mermaids).
Just like the energy of Water, Undines are all about emotions. This makes them very loving and nurturing, but can also lead to tempestuous and stormy emotional shifts. We actually see a large range of different emotions from the titular Undine of the novella, as she is both loving and downright deadly throughout the course of the tale! Fouque definitely had a knack for conveying just how dramatic and emotionally volatile the Water element can be.
Water is a deeply feminine element, I would argue the most feminine element. Undines, being the embodiment of Water, are Faeries that can truly make us feel and experience life to its fullest. From teaching us to trust our own instincts, to giving gifts of Sacred Sexuality and healing, to warning us of the dangers of negative emotions, and even to teaching us the true and expansive beauty of love. When you are feeling unmoored by extreme emotions, the Undines can help soothe your worries with the coolness of the Watery energy they exude. When you are feeling confused by your own emotional mood swings, the Undines can lead you on a Journey into your Shadow to learn a bit more about your own internal needs and deeply held desires. When you feel overwhelming joy, the Undines are always delighted to celebrate the good things in life with you!
Accessing the lands of the Water Spirits and Elementals is not as difficult as some may imagine if you approach them with love and gratitude. Spending time near the Water, whether it be the Ocean, Lake, River, or any other natural body of Water, will aid you in calling Undines near. Taking time to bask in the luxury of soaking in a Bath, or Swimming in a Pool, will aid you in experiencing why the energy of Water is so magickal. When you have drawn closer and begun to form a deep bond with Water, you will have drawn yourself closer and opened yourself up to the energy of the Undines! You can spend time in meditation with them. You can astral project to their Faery Realm in the Otherworld via Mirror or Water Scrying. You can even communicate with them via your favorite Divination techniques, I recommend Tarot (with Mermaid or Nautical decks) and Seashell Divination to truly get to know the Undines better.
No matter what, building and deepening a relationship with Water is a beautiful thing to aid you in healing your Soul, and the Undines would love to help if you are willing to call them into your life.
